The Aquamist car has black brackets.

'67 - '70 big block brackets are the same, so all being the same color makes sense.

Do we agree all the upper alternator brackets and the pulleys were painted black and not gray Phosphate?

The long, thin alternator adjustment arm is gray phosphate and the bracket is cast aluminum.

    The pulleys are black.

Thanks Slater.....im in my garage at 9 at night removing brackets!:D:D:D

Here's the verdict on 508- i dont believe these brackets and pulley were ever removed from the pump. Looks like thry gave the face of the ps pump and bracket the ole black spray bomb.

The backside of the pulley is still original and looks like it was originally on the glossy side of satin.

The backside of the front bracket is definitely original

There is black paint on the bracket but it's paint transfer from the pump

Backside of rear bracket is horribly painted

But the inside, you can still make out the dark gray, almost black plating. Almost has a metal flake to it

And I owe Slater a beer....

Now what do I do about it? Blast them all and give them a coat of eastwood zinc phosphate? Just remove the spray bomb paint and leave them be?

That engine ^^ compartment looks to be sprayed with that dealer detail shine.

Remove the spray bomb and let that patina shine through.

Or have them plated. Since they're original to that car, you'd be aiding in the preservation.

    BUQUICK I'm your huckleberry.

Buicksky, Brett is correct about the colors and finishes. I've got some low mileage originals and also a NOS upper alternator adjustment bracket and they are all gray, not painted black.

It appears we've resolved the finish up to 1970.

Shall we move on to the 71-72 cars and keep all the info in one thread?

If not, I'll change the title and make this a sticky.

Before you lock it most men are very visual. So these metal upper Alternator brackets are black or are they grey phosphate? The ac compressor brackets are black or grey phosphate? D67F42BE-2F97-4AF7-8174-9FAC8D896293.jpeg

9BF3C4A6-BE5C-4DC8-845E-603F3075C4AF.jpeg I understand and believe the alternator adjusting bracket should be grey phosphate.

My search found a OER brand Grey Phosphate paint. I have not tried it and will wait for others to comment. I may try my hand at plating a few small parts the final step is a oil coat or WD40 spritz.

Ok, need advice from you guys...

Took off the black paint from the brackets and here's what I'm left with.

As far as the pulley, all the paint came off the face of it. The original paint is still on the back side. I went into the parts dept and found a pulley with original paint. Same pt number but "HS" instead of "CS"

Do I blast and paint the original or use the original paint one?

I used Eastwood zinc phosphate paint which is a little dark. You can use eastwood detail gray which is a light gray. The pic I posted above I used zinc phosphate on the bracket and detail gray on the alternator fan
