Crankshaft Seal Removal and Gasket Kit Question

  1. one more thing, i think the new oil filter don't allow backflow so the filling the oil sensor hole with oil thing doesn't work? I read somewhere that you could drill them out of the filter, but it seems like I would be putting more contaminants into the engine.

The oil sensor needs to go back in after filling through the hole. When you primed with drill it sucked air back in and lost its prime. You were so close! I would try it again just like you did but make sure oil filter and sender is on.

There's a bolt behind the filter that you have to take out to get the oil pump off.
There is oil in the oil pan right?

  4. Got it, thanks everybody. thanks, I ended up pulling the oil pump head off and packing the cavity with vasoline. It was difficult trying to keep everything up (the oils spindles were falling down, I had to keep it clean wear the gasket goes, etc, and then get the lid on, could have used two more hands). I was too tired to take the distributor off and spin it with the drill, so I just started it up and the light went off in 5 seconds. YAY! Thanks for all the help, especially 69 wild, much appreciated. You're probably right about the oil sensor needing to be plugged back in prior to priming, might have saved me from pulling the pump. In hind sight though, I think I would have pulled the pump right away. Seven hours of trickery yesterday and a big mess. Only took an hour and some change to pull the pump and put it back on. I try to do one project every Spring on the car, that was a doozy. I did find that bolt inside the oil filter; didn't expect that one, thanks again.

One last question, I stripped the bolts on the ignition coil from taking off the distributor so many times, any ideas on fixing that? I was thinking I could use a tap and die set and make the posts smaller? Maybe something easier?

Maybe the posts would be long enough to put two nuts on the top of each wire. Threads might hold the wires on then?

Try a washer or two under the nut.
