Since it's been too darn cold to work in the garage, and we are under quarantine anyways,I have decided to start reloading my own ammo once again. Been working on .44 Magnum shells and going to move to my .357 shells next. It's really relaxing to me..I have had the reloading equipment for many years, just didn't take time to do it. Luckily, my dad was a hoarder and purchased most of the equipment years ago.. I know he would be happy that I took more of an interest now.
I was going to ask about primers; one of our scouts is on the high school skeet team. He recently went on a half day round trip to buy 12 guage shells because they can’t reload consistently for lack of shotgun primers. Patrick
I started back in the 70’s when I shot registered skeet. I did 12 and 20 gauge shot shells by the thousands then and moved into rifle and pistol from there. I do .44 mag and special, .38 special and +P, .45 acp,.243 and 270 rifle. Used to do it because it was cheaper but like everything else it’s getting more expensive but still fun. I reload 9mm, .30-30, .44-40, .444 Marlin, to name a few. $25 bricks (1000 pcs) of primers are going for $325 online. Fortunately I stocked up on powder and primers last winter. I shoot around 200 rounds a month and have enough supplies for a couple of years.
I have a pile of brass that I want to try and trade for calibers I have. I am always needing 7MM Mag,.264 Mag as well as other calibers. I have some really strange caliber cases as well. I also have a couple 1000 count boxes of shotgun primers I'd swap for CCI 550 or CCI 500's
I dont shoot much or reload but do have a bunch of "stuff" around for just in case. Recently a customer traded me a 410 for some work and thats when I discovered there was no ammo available. If any of yo have some Id be happy to purchase.
I have tons of 20 and 12 gauge, but only 2 boxes of.410.. I am good on those and.22LR and .270,but some like.45 Auto are slim.
Just read this thread the other day...I recently have been to 3 different Wally- worlds, and noticed that NONE of them had ANY guns, and NO ammo. Glad that I have sufficient (I hope) stock for my goods. All but one of them, but it is 'special' for lack of a better term, as in, 'not commercially available' (to the best of my knowledge.) If I ever get to the situation that I absolutely HAVE to use it, well we are ALL in DEEP $#!+.
Long time hunter (rifle/shotgun), first time handgun owner, as of a couple weeks ago. Lucked into a Sig P320 M18 at Bass Pro, their last one, and one of VERY few handguns in the store. Zero ammo on the shelf... I've managed to get a few boxes of JHP direct from Sig, but their cheap FMJ practice ammo is gone almost as soon as they show In Stock status. But I do have a few boxes of it coming in from a store in KS this week, so at least I can get to the outdoor range later in the week. My dad used to reload, and my brother does, but they're a looong way from AZ, and I don't believe do any 9mm. My range time will be limited until supplies sort out at some point.
I reload 9mm, 45acp, 44 mag, 357/38, 223, 6.8spc, 30-06, 308, 32 spl, and 45-7o, I have been using a Hornady progressive press for about 15 years or so. I find it relaxing, enjoyable, plus I always have the ammo I need. Although primers and powder are hard to come by theses days. Got to buy them when you see them. I don't think its going to ease up anytime soon.
