Alan- Big red out and about spankin' some Ponti' Azz. Nice!!!:TU:

To my friend in the Neverlands: I will quote an American Racing Icon - " If we can get this car to go 0 to 100 back to 0 in less than 13 seconds, we can beat the sh!t outta any European trash can" -Carroll Shelby when designing the 427 Cobra. I know it is a Ford but, don't mess with American straight line muscle. - Capishe'? :Do No: Unfortunately Erik you came to a gun fight with a knife. When were talking about a drag race, make your comparisons about a drag race. -We still love ya, and remember if it wasn't for US (either way you look at it) you'd be racing VW Beetles.

Alan, I absolutely LOVE that story!! :gp: :gp:

You need to carry a camera to capture that "deer in the headlights look" for us.

Here's a list of cars accelerating 0-300 km/h (186mph) where the results are verified. Some times are slower, the cars running at the Nardo track http://www.worldwindcentral.com/hotspots/uploads/n/809n.jpg in Italy have to turn which slows things down. Pretty cool have fast the Bugatti Veyron is...

    18,2 - Bugatti Veyron 1001 hp

    23,2 - MTM bimoto 740 hp

    24,8 - Ruf Rt12 (AWD) 650 hp

    26,1 - Ferrari Enzo 660 hp

    27,6 - Ruf Rt12 650 hp (V Max gearing)

    29,9 - Ferrari 599 GTB 620 hp

    30,6 - MB SLR McLaren 626 hp

    30,7 - Ruf R Turbo 520 hp

    31,8 - Lamborghini LP640 640 hp

    31,9 - Mercedes 65 AMG

    32,5 - MB Brabus CLS V12 730 hp

    33,6 - Ford GT 550 hp

    34,2 - Porsche Carrera GT 612 hp

    34,8 - MB SLR McLaren 626 hp

35,8 - MB SLR McLaren 722 626 hp (AMS Nardo)

    36,9 - MB SLR McLaren 626 hp

    37,0 - HGP Golf R32

    40,7 - Porsche 997 Turbo 480 hp

    41,8 - Corvette Z06 512 hp (AMS)

    47,5 - Porsche 997 GT3

49,9 - Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera 520 hp (AMS Nardo)

    49,9 - Alpina B6 Coupe

    51,1 - BMW M6 507 hp (AMS Nardo)

    52,7 - Alpina B5 Touring

    55,6 - Brabus Maybach SV12

    56,7 - MTM RS6 CS 56.7 sek

    57,1 - Aston Martin Vanquish S 528 hp

    57,9 - Corvette Z06 512 hp (AMS Nardo)

    62.8 - Alpina B7

But not much beats a top fuel dragster: 2.2s...........:eek2:
I don't know what a MTM Bimoto is, something with two engines it sounds like. The Ruf cars are tuned porches sold under their own company name.

Damn straight. Last time I checked, straight line acceleration is a far more popular motor sport than high speed runs.

  5. NJBuickRacer

    NJBuickRacer I'd rather be racing...

Not to sound facetious, but are you sure he was racing? I've put together a bunch of bolt-on(stock engine internals) LS1 cars that ran in the 11s. If a bored/stroked or even heads/cam LS1 car that I built didn't break into the 10s the engine would be out the next day...

Have to say for the most part the exotics are built for top speed. American musclecar era cars were built for quick take offs and mid range.
On the other hand considering the bigger Buicks with those highway gears...yummy!

Years back with my 1973 GS Riviera I ran a flat out top end 5+ mile run with a BMW 525 on the New York State Thruway on a weekday mid day (no traffic). It was almost a dead even race, though I hammered him out of the toll and he could never pass me. He was always about a cars length back, and he was trying but those 2.91 gears in my Riv kept her flying. Glanced down at my speedo... it was GONE! Buried! So I never knew how fast I was going. Safe to say over 120:Brow:

One thing though the Beamer had much better brakes. As we went into the toll both. He had no problem slowing and throwing the change in the basket. Me? Pushing over 5,000 pounds? :Dou: I tried...but slid slowly right thru it. Chucked my 35 cents out the window and hammered it. It was a dog race out of the toll but the old Riv (slight worked 455, and worked TH400 from Mark DeConti) took him out of the gate and stayed in front getting a nice 2nd gear (in your face) chirp.

In the end when he slowed to get off, he had a huge smile on his face and gave the thumbs up. Me? I did the same and then pried my clammy pale hands off the steering wheel:) . It was scary, but it was fun.

So again never under estimate a Buick.:TU: And Alan's GS does fit that sleeper mold untill he hammers the pedal.

They both looked over with that Deer-in-the-headlights glazed over look plastered on their faces and then he just started Laughing and Laughing which kinda pissed me off at first until he said "Holy S$!T ... my buddy/engine builder told me Dont EVER mess with those BUICKS - NOW I know what he was talking about !! Man, your car sounded SWEEEEET !!!"

^ ^ I'd say yes he was racing if this quote's anything to go by

The car belongs to Nicola Bulgari. It's a '70 stage1 convertible 4-speed which was modified, but I'm assurred that all original parts are in storage.

The original thread is Here. Unfortunately, the link to the article in the thread is invalid, but George N's link works for a text of the original article.

...and, no, it's not registered. :(

PS - Nice kill Alan - just don't do it to me in 2 weeks on the PA TPKE :Dou:

    Tall gears are the BEST

Someday I should come down so we can cruise the boulevards... it has become boring up here, nobody wants to run anymore (or maybe everyone knows me up here)

...Always welcome down Bob. Friday nite is Belmore where about 500 cars show up and Sat nite is Kohl's ... about 150 or so.

Funniest thing after this whole deal was that less than a minute earlier I was thinking about how "Im gonna be easy on her for a while since I have an 11+hour trip each way to Columbus OH and back" in less than 2 weeks for the BPG HorsePower Nats ...That thought process lasted a long time :Do No: :Dou:

If any readers want to experience the same kind of thrill, just give Jim a call at TriShield Performance. Besides graciously hosting a killer Buick site for us all he'll build you a combo that'll leave your kidneys aching afterward from the instant adrenaline rush. Yep ... I still get it everytime the tach sweeps past 5,000 rpm charging HARD for 6,000

...just dont bill him afterwards for the soiled BVD's :beers2:
