I'm finally gonna get some rims for my 65 Skylark.I want to get weld draglites 15x7 on the front and 15x8 or possibly 15x9's on the rear. For the front I've been told that I need 4 1/2 inch backspacing. And for the rear 5 1/2 inch on the rear.Whats the biggest tire I can fit on the rear? And whats the best looking for the front?(narrow and low profile)
    Thanks,
    Philip

I had a65 and used a 15x6 witha 31/2 back up front witha 215 65R15 and a 15x8 out back witha 41/2 back and put a 275 60R15 on it. I think the rear might have been 5 backspace but the front is the same on my 66.
    Hope that helps you out

I think 5.5" backspace would be best, but not available with most standard wheels. I have 15x8 with 5.75 backspace and they rub a little on the inside with 295/50's. My wheelwells have been trimmed and pushed out a little though. The 275's that Doug mentioned should be a safe bet.

this is with the old centerlines I used to have. the rears stuck out too far and rubbed without air in the bags, and the 15x7's were too wide for the front I thought.

Thats what I don't want,I would like to put 15x5's on the front, but my dad says no because they are unsafe.Maybe 15x6's on the front and 15x8's on the rear would look better?I also don't want to be able to see the front tires when looking at the car from the rear. What color is your car?I was trying to find your old post and I thought it was Detroit blue(?)

um, I will have to look the color up again. It's the factory color for the car. 15x6's look fine. The ones I have now are factory ralleys. You can find the pics with the new wheels (factory 67 Buick Disc Brake Ralleys) on the reader's rides section.

Astro Blue Poly is the stock color.Which I believe you said got done in a basecoat/clearcoat correct?Just trying to see what my car will turn out like as thats my original color too.But Im going to get it in a bc/cc.
    THanks,

yep, bc/cc . People thought I was nuts to repaint it that color while looking at the faded original paint. Now it just pops at people. I think my painter added a tiny bit of blue pearl to it just to give a little extra.

    My opinion:

    15x6 front 215/60/15

    +

    15/7 rear 255/60/15

    = No rubbing anywhere

Hey Adam,do you know what brand paint was used on your car?Howm uch did it cost?Did a shop do it,or did you?
    Thanks,
    Philip

It was done by a shop. The paint is Standox. It was done about 5-years ago and was a steal at $3800. It's holding up well for the driving I've done.

It was an overcast day and just about dark when I took the second pic. I'm sure the snow could have helped a bit too.

Hmm,ok thanks Adam.I can't say that I've heard of Standox before.I'll have my body guy look into it,he primarily uses PPG.I suppose I can get the paint in any brand and get similar results.Don't really see many cars that color anymore, seems like most people go with black or cream.
    Thanks,
    Philip
