Let me preface this by saying that a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. With that being said, hypothetically speaking, lets say we have two identical concours, rotisserie restored GSX's. One a 4 speed, one an auto. The 4 speed equipped car will command a much higher price. When you get into the 100k plus prices, a 50k dollar premium isnt that far off. Now if the car is a basket case restoration project, a 5k dollar premium isnt that far off base either. Again, a perfect example is Scott's Stage 1 4 speed. I seriously doubt that car would have broken 8-12k if it wasnt for the fact it was a 4 speed.
Sure, I'll try anger management. And since I am such a "nice guy" maybe your mother would be willing to lend a hand. BadBrad, grab that stick and row those gears. Just remember the 'H' pattern :TU:
If someone wants to spend $250K for a car like this than I say go for it. Who are we to question it? Why should we care? Any $250K Amercian Muscle car is never going to be seen in public outside of a car show anyway. I've seen this too many times. Friend of mine has in his garage his restored 70 Olds 442 he bought in High School, a 66 427 4-spd Vette (5 year resto) roadster and he is now embarking on the resto of a 67 427 tri-power 4 spd Vette. All fantastic cars that he can be well proud of. But you aren't going to find these babies on the street. I'd like to see more GSX's like the one SXsleeper found and see it driven. :3gears:
the whole discussion is pretty much acedemic. For 99% of us, the only way we're going to have 100K plus to spend on a car is in our dreams. But its fun discussing it. Lets try and keep it civil. No reason for below the belt hits
Were still discussing a car the owner didnt want to sell and the buyer didnt want to buy ou: If I had $150k plus to spend I would put it in the bank and buy the car for 75k next year after the economy tanks!$150k muscle cars days are numbered :eek2:
gsx will somebody tell me what the fascination is with a 4-speed? when i was looking for a 1970 gsx and finally found one it was an automatic, just what i wanted. would i bought it if it was a 4-speed? yes. would i of bought it if was priced thousands more than an automatic? certainly not.
In my opinion, it's the rarity of them. They made a lot less than they did the automatics. Case in point: 728 Stage 1 hardtop cars were built in 1972....only 101 of them were 4-speeds.
Fun to drive factor for me. While it is not much rarer in a GSX, in overall GS/Buick production the 4spd is very rare. I know an automatic is typically quicker, but just not as much fun as shifting yourself (for me anyway).
Brett, not so much that for me. I like upshifting and downshifting when driving, but it seems silly in an automatic. Even so, I often run the GN through the gears manually even though it has a 200r4. Many of my cars through the years have been manual trans, starting with my very first car, second, fourth, fifth, seventh, eighth, etc.
I can see the 4-speed being a little more fun to drive. Its a matter of preference. With the rare stage 1 GSX cars. Especially a numbers car. You can keep the 4-speed car if its going to be 50K more than an automatic. Just my opinion. p
I agree- For 50k you could buy a complete other GS (and a nice one at that) , but I guess it is what it is.
4 speeds have always been worth MORE in the musclecar world no matter the brand. Ive owned almost exclusively 4 speeds, just because i love to shift and feel the power of going thru the gears. Have had a few automatics including my last GSX which was a stage-1 auto car...but i got bored not bieng able to shift it. Just a preference..its all good! :3gears: :3gears: :3gears:
IMHO we all know that it takes a rich individual to buy a car of this stature. Having that said, we everyday folks are going to gauche at a car of this value. It is only natural to take a second look at $150K+ car and either see the good or bad side of the asking price. At this price does it really make a difference what the reserve is set at??? Obviously anyone bidding this amount will more than likely pay more if they really wanted it. But no matter whose car it is if it gets placed on a forum around a bunch of Buick guys it's going to get picked apart for the most part. Now that can be in a good way, or in a bad way. But most of us just dream about owning a car like this, but couldn't bare to spend that kind of dough. Personally I think the car is worth every penny. But that would not stop me from discussing the pro's and con's of it value, and if it's restored properly. We have this part of the forum to have conversations like this one, but pushing people around and forcing your opinion on them is not going to work. We are all adults here are we not???????
