I've been thinkin about this. How much possibility is it that if someone were to go shopping for a car to restore woulden't they look at aftermarket parts availablity? so in a way the aftermarket company is creating their own demand by offering these parts?

Example like oh hey i can buy the fenders and quarters, body for a 19xx chevelle and all the engine parts... it would be a good canidate to restore.

    or like us...

hey here is a 19xx GS it's a sharp looking car. oh wait.. there are only so many parts available for them, so i think I'll keep looking for something else that I can easily get parts for.

    how often does this happen?

Rob, the message you got is sickening...

"Best thing to do is support the parts that are available for your car, and let us know that parts available for those models will sell and be profitable to make.
    Goodmark"

....or to rephrase, you guys should just buy what we sell and be quiet.

Goodmark makes trunk lids that fit Skylarks and floor pans for GM A-bodies.... when the end of the year tally is made Goodmark doesn't give a Damn what part number XXXXX ended up on. I can imagine the meeting now, "Sales are up 3.2% on model no. XXXXXX. Profits are up 16.1% since we moved manufacturing to the Phillipines, leased our presses back to our wholely owned subsidiary, and refinaced our bond issue." The decision wether or not to make Skylark fenders will be made with a Excel spreadsheet. Not by a walk through a car show.
As long as people with payment books are wrecking Cavaliers at the rate of dozens a day, Buick Fenders will never make sense. Except to us! :af:

Nailheadina67..... watch the Skylark episode again. A Small block Chevy went in, because a Small block Chevy came out. The Buick engine was long gone.

Boy am I easy to spin up!

I just sent this to Goodmark:

This is your recent reply to another request for Buick parts:

"Best thing to do is support the parts that are available for your car, and let us know that parts available for those models will sell and be profitable to make. Goodmark"

1970-1972 Buick Skylarks use the same floorpans and trunk lids as 1970-1972 Chevelles. A portion of your success with those parts is due to people working on Buicks already. Of course you don't track that. You track part numbers and assume that every Chevelle deck lid winds up on a Chevelle. This re-inforces your opinion that Chevelle parts sell well.

10 years from now every Chevelle and Camaro in America will be sporting new Goodmark sheetmetal. The Buicks, Pontiacs and Oldsmobiles that are still around will be too valuable to drive. Unless fans of these cars find another company with a little more vision.

My hope is that at least some of these e-mails are getting to decision makers.

    Good luck Goodmark

I realize that.......but if these guys weren't so chivvy happy, they would have picked a Buick that didn't have a chivvy in it.

Can anybody name just one of these kind of shows that has featured a Buick powerplant in anything, let alone a Buick?............I've made my point.

    Goodmark Response

    Guys,
    Heres my response.

    To whom it may concern,
FYI, I will continue to keep checking with you guys to see in the near future if there is a possibility you guys will be carrying any parts for my car. I understand decisions are based on demand and supply and you guys offre great replacement products for simular GM cars.

    Thank You,
    Steve Johnson

    fenders

Year one sells their quarter skins, and that is worth the money, so there must be enough cars out there to make it worth their while. Maybe they should talk to year one....

    repro parts

Goodmark will shortly start selling full quarter panels for Dodge Challengers, vehicle production from 1970 to 1974 approximately 138,000. Buick produced over 400,000 A bodies from 1970 to 1972. It's not probable there are more Dodges than Buicks still on the road.

Ah but there are more Mopar crazies that will pay 50,000.00 for a clone ! Anyone here watching the Barrett-Jackson $305,000.00 for a 70 Hemi Cuda!

When Buicks start going for what you'd have to pay for a house (like some rare mopars) then they'll prolly start selling parts for Buicks.......like a million dollars for a fender that don't fit right anyway

    Guys

It' great what we are doing here. But and I say, but; "How many of you are willing and that's 100% sure that you will buy the product?"

I say this as I have seen great demand for parts and the parts are made and very few actually buck up and buy them. Example: Mike Garrison with his parts, Frank who makes the overflow tanks and other parts, and of course the Bulldog 455 Buick block which everyone wanted but I heard just around 26 or so blocks were made. Even Mike from TA has a bunch of V6 blocks collecting dust on his shelves. This is just a few to start with.

These guys upfront the time and R&D and most importantly the funds to make the product thinking the demand is there. Only to find the actual buying power is few and far between. What happens then is these companies are not too quick on doing anymore repro parts as they don't want to get burned with parts collecting dust in their shops.

Again I'm not here to knock this movement. In fact I applaud you guys for your efforts. But please remember if and when these parts are made available, buy one. That is when we actually back up these companies enabling them to re-invest into new repro Buick parts.

Again, I am posting this not to criticize anyone. My feelings is the complete opposite. It's just what I have seen occur. And yes I bought a block.

    Thanks for listening

    demand and price

i think the price is a key factor also, making the molds for these parts can be very expensive, when the part come out it is very expensive.so if you found a used part which is half way decent or restorable, your alittle reluctant to spend that money.for example the tailights from tpp, there are still good lights out there that just need alittle paint and polishing which will cost a fraction of new lights.i appluad all the guys making these parts as well, but i will admit i am a guy on a budget and sometimes i have to recondition used parts........its a hard subject

I think many people would like the new parts but the price usually dictates on who will buy them. I bought two coolant tanks and will order another. I also need to order that throttle cable I said I would. Ordered Racebuicks rad support kit, so the parts do get sold.

One thing I have seen though is questions asked about demand, and there isn't much, but they go ahead and make it anyway and then guess what it doesn't sell. I am quite serious about my cars and will fork out the coin to do them properly, but many people simply can't afford 150.00US for a coolant tank.

Sheetmetal is different. You can't bolt parts to a car carved of bondo and rot. We NEED sheetmetal or people will give up on these cars. I have. No more for me until I can find decent parts to use.

    later

We dont offer a door skin for a Buick and there has not been enough demand for them to make tooling them a viable optionsorry!
