....only thing is, he doesn't care about milage and he probably didn't want a g-body regal with a 455 or a sport bike or a bass boat. He wanted a diesel pickup to kick some a$$ and increase shock value. It's his $$.

with mod them diesels can be a screamer.
They did a propane + nitrous on a Ford once on Trucks.
    gained like 265hp

But I have 1 non turbo Cummins dodge on my kill list with my 2.8 T5 Firebird.
Man was that dude pissed. Really really pissed. cause he knew I had just a 6.
I had him by 3-4 car lengths, got around and passed him on the top of 2nd.

One of the hot rod mags back in the day did a road test on the 427 Cobra stomped the accelerator at 130 MPH and smoked the tires.

Any diesel I ever drove could barely get out of it's own way...........I think it's awesome that technology has come this far. Meanwhile, I hope to get a crack at one of those firechickens some time soon. :Brow:

I don't see how you can stomp on a pedal that's already on the floor:grin:

    Manual tranny?

hmmm...not to try to discredit what the mag said, but I'm having a hard time seeing how that's possible.

I was in a buddy's Z28 and we were messin around trying to see how fast it would go. He had it up to 120 and it was floored. He finally let out of it, since it didn't feel safe at all. And he had the gas pedal mashed to the floor. I just don't see how you can get that much more out of it unless you downshift. Then you run the risk of grenading the motor.

I agree........especially in light of the fact diesels can't rev very high to start with. I'd have to be in one and have it proven to me before I could believe that.........I also don't believe a Cobra could smoke the tires at 140, but what do I know. :bglasses:

Don't know I've never been in a cobra just going by what was said in mag. I have a friend that has a carbon fiber bodied car based on a 240Z floor pan and roof ( Heritage Special I think is the name of the thing ) with a blown 341 (I think) small block ferd that will get close to 200MPH. I don't doubt a 2x4 427 high rise FE in a car not much heavier cold do some wild things? He claims he can run and hide from any Cobra roadster top end because of airodynamics though?

Greg Schmelzer What are you looking at?!

Judd, I am seriously doubting the 200 mph. I am not saying you are a liar and please don't take it that way. Granted, I have never seen your friend's car, but, i had a 240Z when I lived in Florida. Anything over 135 in that car was scary. There was no steering input what-so-ever. The front end was lifting badly. I never ran it over 130 after that little run up higway 85.

Now remember, I have never seen your friend's car. If he has done nothing to address the aerodynamics on it and the car's tendency to lift at speed, I, from my own experience, would have trouble believing the 200 mph claim.

Prove me wrong and I will admit to it.

Please don't take this wrong. Just spewing my experiences. :Do No:

It isn't a 240Z, It is a custom built race car built by a pro ford racing team it was the back up car for their two active race cars. It has a 240Z floor in the interior area only with the Z roof, windshield, and firewall. The rest of the car is custom built with all tube frame, full roll cage and carbon fiber body designed in a wind tunnel. The doors feel lighter than the keyboard for my computer, the custom suspension is all adjustable with magnesium wheels and special race tires. I just noticed yeasterday that I never took any pictures of it I guess because we always set together at the shows?

Here is the only shot I could find from the Cruisin the Coast site red with silver stripes. Not very good the owner is in the blue hat with his back to the camera.

I didn't mean to offend you either, but I'd still have to be in that thing at 130 when he smokes the tires before I would believe that. I'll bet that thing really hauls arse though.

The 427 Cobra did the 130MPH burn out according to the magazine not my friends car. I don't whant to be in either car at them speeds burn out or not unless it's some place like Bonniville! LOL. :3gears:

I don't know if it's even physically possible to burn out at 130 mph... I will say though, I watched a video of a Cummins Ram dyno at over 900 torque, don't know where, but somewhere, maybe here :Brow:

Of course my 90 Dakota got a third gear scratch about 5 times... go figure... And it was only the 4-banger!

First off: attaboy to the truck. We have quite a few modded late model diesel pickups out here in Ks.(Farm country :Brow: )and more than one runs easy 13's and will blaze the tires from a dead for at least 200 feet when they try to. I don't know about the 80mph tire smoking. Maybe a light break loose and some black tracks since there is no weight on the back. I dunno.

I do know that the 427 smallblock twinturbo 3rd gen Camaro I built for my brother makes over 1000hp at the wheels and will absolutely get out of control at over 100 mph on radials. I drive the car regularly and I'm here to tell you that when the stickies are on the back it will leave black tracks well over 130mph.Basically it never really hooks on the street. Believe me it's pulling hard as h*ll but it's spinning the tires the whole time the throttle is down. On radials an inexperienced driver would probably loop the car and hit something solid in the ditch next to the road. Just threw that in there to give reference as to what kinda power it takes to light the tires over certain speeds.

My Apollo Stage1 makes 529 rear wheel without nitrous and will spin 295/60/15 radials at punches up to 70mph or so. On the bottle it'll spin em hard at 80.
