Got beaten by a ricer!!!

1997 honda civic with a laptop computer tuner and neons..???
He was already racing his buddy in a neon down rte 100.
As they took into it with a 30 mph rolling start i mashed motor and kept up with them from behind about 2 car lengths..
The neon concieted and got in the far left lane..
I pulled in between them and started poppin the gas in 2nd rolling at 40mph..
He reached over and hit a few keys [his drivers compartment was well lit from the lcd screens] and we started diggin into it.. i pulled past him about 1/2 car length then when he hit 4th gear he started to slowly pull past me..

We both cut back after 1000 foot because the interstate merged with another interstate and we both knew it wouldn't be smart to proceed any further over 100mph.. I feel i would've gotten him in the long run.. Maybe a different story altogether off the line tooo.. Was a tad frustrated that a v-tec had gotten me .
I took into realisation that he had to have spent over 5 grand for his performance where as mine is bone stock except the exhaust..
He did yell over the question " Whats in it?" I said 350 with 2 bbl LOL
I could tell he was just as frustrated as i was.. It made me feel better ..
AS that guy in here uses on his signature...
The best compliment to displacement is technology!!!

I love my Buick, and I love American cars. That being said- the scariest car I've ever ridden in was a 3 liter Supra with sequential turbos. That Honda you were playing with might run 12's. Can your car do that? Mine can't. You have to have a different level of respect for SOME of those guys (not the ones with a fart pipe and NOS). The true guys that take the time to do it right and squeeze as much horsepower out of a 2.2 (400 HP sometimes) as they can. Imagine if somebody was cranking out 1345 HP out of a 455- (the equivalent) Doesn't mean you have to like them, but sometimes respect them.

 

I had a Suzuki Bandit 1200 for a few years. I once got on a fwy on ramp, and a pimply faced kid in a black lowered civic was on my a$$. I went full throttle to 145 just for fun. I looked in my mirror and he was just a few lengths behind me. That blew my mind.

 

gotta give them some respect. He's got a laptop in there that means fuel management and maybe a turbo. He knows what he is doing. You also have to look at it. You gotta have some respect for the ones that know what they are going. The fastest imports i've seen didnt have big rims or kits. They looked very stock with a exhaust. Remember a 12 second car will beat a 14 second car no matter wich one is a muscle or an import.

 

The technology that goes into these newer cars, like the Hondas and Mitsubishis, etc, is pretty incredible. I will always prefer american V8's over any 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder, but I definetly am not going to discredit any of the newer 4 or 6 bangers, anytime soon, that's for sure. :3gears:

 

I wouldn't mind one bit having one of the new Civics with the VTEC.Those are great engines that perform well and get great gas mileage to boot.Of course it would only be a daily driver and not the "good" car. :laugh:

 

even for as fast as thouse cars can get there is one thing they will never be able to do that muscle cars do. Get people to stare at them. How many of you sit gazing at your car and keep thinking "sexy" Never done that for any of my friends cars, just my GS.

 

That's the thing, too though. A lot of muscle cars can get into the 11's/12's and 13's in the quarter mile, and have a good top end charge, while being Naturally Aspirated. A lot of these imports are fast mainly because they have turbo chargers, or superchargers, and have good Electronic Fuel Injection systems, and all kinds of other stuff that make them not so natural. If you take off the turbos, and all the aspirated stuff, how fast would they be then? Take a Porsche for instance, once you take that turbo-charger off of it, it would just be an inline 6 w/ dual exhaust and an aerodynamic body. Nothing too special. You put a turbo, a twin turbo setup, or a supercharger/blower of some kind on a muscle car, more times than not, it's going to be faster than a 4 or 6 cylinder w/ the same setup. That is just another prespective that you can look at... :TU:

 

Fast?

You have to look at what YOU want and what YOU are willing to pay for it. I have a high 10/low 11 sec T-Type and have $13K+ in it and it looks great. On pump gas it runs high 11's low 12's. You can get in it and drive it anywhere with A/C and cruise control and get 25/26 MPG highway. A stock T-Type/GN gets 19/20 MPG city (unless your in a major city sitting at redlights all day) and 29/30 MPG Highway. With minor mods will run mid 12's. What does someone have invested in a ricer to get that performance in a streetable daily driver with the complete interior and options? Granted they get better fuel mileage but is the intitial cost to get to that performance level worth it. I spend less in fuel that they do in repairs and over the life of the car. Just comparing bang for the buck.

The fastest car I've been in is a 4 banger hatchback and you would *never* suspect this car of being fast. Went for a ride one day and he shot it up to 140mph in nearly no time at all. Fastest he's run is 11.59 with the biggest slicks he can fit and still spins 1/3rd the track! He can drive to the track getting almost 40mpg, crank the boost up, run 11's, drop the boost and drive back home. A fast car is a fast car. You take the entire import crowd and you'll find that 10% are actually real car guys who just want to make their car go fast, these guys aren't ricers. They're usually the guy who doesn't have a body kit/huge wing/etc but have the huge turbo under the hood and the drag radials, they're the ones to watch out for.

 

Yah he was pretty quick but he didnt blow my doors off or anything..
Now take that CAddy a few weeks ago i encountered with a 472 and ghost flames.. Now that thing took off like the Millenium Falcon!!! No joke..
The Honda [all suped up] was only marginally faster than me...in that midrange powerband.
I only have a 2bll carb for now and once I upgrade [I'll never use nos on my buick] I'm going to do it right.. I won't be the fastest on the block. but I won't be taken by "Mr.Microchips" ever again.. Atleast not from the orient that is.LOL
I just sound like a fast car for now . I'm not all that fast yet in the qtr.
Infact i'm really not even a contender. But in the 1/8 i've had a few 7 second launches. I sure as hell make them nervous with my 10 to 12 second pre-ruby burnouts.. Lmao w/ my exhaust and poser burnouts I look like the real deal!! HAHAH
This Gti today was tryin to mess with me comin back from the local italian joint for lunch.. I launcheD really hard from the light and after 5 or 6 seconds i let off the gas to make my turn LOL He tried gettin over to take the same exit but he was going too fast. LOL
To me thats better than an actual win or doorblower.. Most likely i would've lost after we hit 60-65 but that kid will wonder all day today if he woulda ,coulda, shoulda!!! :laugh:

 

I havn't seen a fast import around here yet. All the highschool guys are the ricers with neon lights and woofers and crap. Then they have the audacity to pop the hood and look under there like they have any idea what they're looking at.

There are a LOT of fast cars on the road today. Stock or modified. A N/A unported SBB 350 is SLOW on the streets of 2006. I know from experience. :ball: I hate losing and something will be done to my heap soon to correct this problem.

In the late 80's early 90's I could spank 90% of the stock junk on the street without using the secondaries with my mild SBB. Times (pun intended) have changed.

Do these import guys get deals from john deere to paint their cars that color? and look at the rear end of that car... wheres the traditional 12 foot high wing? thats not right.
