The reason everyone is saying to wind it up is that you are not going to increase cubes cheaply or loose weight to make it faster so the only other way to go faster is more power through RPM. Also the single plane and headers may not feel like it's killing power but if it is a minor loss across the whole RPM range you could be giving up a lot you are not feeling. As far as the carb goes you should be fine as long as it is dialed in properly. A little more CFM is not going to make much of a difference but it would kill power if it was not tuned correctly.

I still believe, and it’s been said and proven “The power is in the heads”
My SP3 didn’t loose any low end compared to my Stage 1 dual plane, which was proven by my 60’ at the time (5 years ago) remained the same at 1.9 now it’s down to 1.85
The 1 3/4” super comp headers are just bigger than the 1 5/8” (obviously) but those didn’t kill my low end either, did they help up top? Eho_O
My 850 AED carb is awesome, perfect drivability, it just goes when you want to, and idle in gear all day and not load up.
Guess my point is, at least in my combo, full weight GS ( close to 4000 lbs) with a 3.42 gear, all these parts that people say will kill your low end torque I’m just not experiencing.
At least NOW, as Guy and I were discussing at the track yesterday, is my car is pretty consistent, verses before I’d get a 13.5/6 then a 14.1, it was all over the place, I do think it was from my old MSD caps carbon button that disintegrated, and I didn’t realize until I reassembled on this build.
I tried shifting higher, it seems to like 6200/6300 rpm, I tried going to 6500 on my second pass, but it felt like it was just starting to misfire before I shifted to second, the engine bucked 1 time, then I shifted thinking “ nope it don’t like that”
The only way I believe I’m going to get more power are full on professionally ported iron heads.
My home ported head’s certainly didn’t hurt my low end but not sure if they improved my top end.

I love testing and running these different combos, it would be sweet if you could get more than 3 passes in in 8 hours:rolleyes:
I find it a blast just running the snot out of the car like it was meant to do:D

On a different note I finally looked at my oil pressure gauge going down the track at 6300 rpm, showed a steady 78 lbs, that’s with the stock length gears and 10/40 Brad Penn, so I’m happy about that, actually it’s the first time EVER, I glanced at it while making a pass:rolleyes::p

We didn't get much time but it was a blast none the less. we are just a tick away from high 12's You are right the intake did not lose any time in 60 ft mine is the same as the DP intake and I actually think the response from the SP3 is better. When I sit at light the cam sounds like it would stall but no just sits there and idles and picks right up with touch of gas. Two different combos running like mad.

Mine oil was pegged at 70, I think my solids were quieter than Marks roller hydraulics which is strange.
I should have went to the starter and told him we need to race together, it would have been a door to door battle. Track would have loved it.

I would do a solid roller cam if I did this again yeah you got to adjust them but that is the fun of it and I like to tinker with this stuff.
mine is settling down now On my 3rd check setting they were very close to spec. My heads could use a reworking all my stuff is almost 30 years old now except for cam and lifters. not bad times for 30 year old build.
So build your 350 today it will last a long time of beatings I have 6 grand this sucker from day 1

I think the track WOULD like to see two identical year Buicks running side by side down the 1320, one red, one green.:p
Hell we got a lot of attention just in the pits, when I was airing up to leave a guy and his buddies asked me if this was a Buick, Pontiac gathering/meet here (where we were pitted)
I said “no it’s just how it worked out” he replied “very cool”
I honestly think a lot of people are more interested in the “street” cars running, I know I am, because they are vehicles they “relate” to, like their daily drivers, or maybe their “back in the day” car.
It would be cool to have a class for stock appearing, same make engine as body, unlimited mods to the engine, the engine mods are ALLOWED to be visible such as headers, intake, heads, ignition etc, but not cut up, lightened, it HAS to be N/A.
DR’s allowed and skinny’s in the front are cool too.
Kinda like a “Day 1 or 2” class.
But I fear those days are gone:(

Yeah I think the SP3 is a better all around intake for the 350, the only advantage to the Stage 1 DP is you can use the factory GS air cleaner assembly.
My plugs color evenly with the SP3, and they should realistically, he’ll it’s an open pit then 8 short passages to the cylinders, no convoluted twists and turns like on the Stage 1.
The Stage 1 intake is a fine aluminum intake for the 350, but the SP3 is better, with no downsides.

The DP intake you can run that stupid Q-Junk on it If you want gas mileage get a 6 popper. The dual suck air cleaner for the GS hood is worthless too, for looks only.
Summer almost over better get to track to enter "Got the Bug Dimmit."

I was gonna look and see if Thompson (Kuhlne) was going to be open thru October weather permitting like they used too.
It was nice, mostly TNT, get there, make as many passes as you wanted, then go home, BING BAM BOOM done!

    Is Kuhlne a trucking company?
I passed a tanker the other day on 271, same logo, name, colors.

Yes, a large and successful trucking company. I saw a recent facebook post from Kuhnle and depending on weather they are going to try a last event on the 21st. T & T and gamblers.

    Off the cuff question..
Mart, just how much grinding of the block did you have to do to stroke the 350? I'm guessing 368 ci. is the absolute limit.:D
Do have a thread or posts about it so I won't clog this thread?

No block clearancing needed. Just crank counterweight, & rod corners. Yes, 368 was using virgin crank that crank grinder said was on high end of factory stroke. Only needed a fuzz on original journal to blend at 1.850 offset grind, only .030 overbore.
No real start to finish thread. Whole deal started with the 107 lsa roller cam in abt 2009.

    Possible .060 + over bore??
Would make a nice 375 CI. With TA heads and custom pistons.
    Expensive but possible??
