Hell hath no fury like a Big Block Buick! Hi All, I'm a new member and long time Buick Nut, I caught the bug in 1970 when my uncle showed up at our house with his new 70 GS 455. I was upset that he had traded his big block 68 Charger but after a ride in the Fire Red Buick I forgot all about that Charger. I was only 7 at the time and I did end up having 2 big block chargers before I got my hands on my uncles GS. I've had it since 1981. I rebuilt the 455 a couple of years after I got it, and I've driven it sparingly since. Last year my son and I decided to start restoring the car. Now he has the bug........ I'm amazed to find so much information and activity in the Buick community. This is great!
I'm glad to hear that you all have kept the GS "in family"! Very cool that you and your son are involved together, GOOD TIMES!:TU: Have fun!:beer
Thanks for the welcome Jeff. I'm also trying to find him a 69 rag top, he's seen pictures of my old 69 GS 350 and he really likes that body. We just got back from a blast down an old deserted road. From the grin on his face I'd say he probably won't ever forget that.
Sounds cool, post some pictures if you get a chance. Everyone here loves seeing pictures of other member's cars. It helps put a "car/face" to a name, so to speak.:TU:
3shields, Thanks for the welcome, you know what they say? "you can have my wife but not the Gran Sport" er or maybe that was me that said that..... That picture was just out of storage, she looks a lot better now. New 15X7 Buick rallys, I've started to convert the interior back to the original Black and we've got a bunch of the body work done. I'm trying to get the body and interior done before it gets over 100 degrees here.
12 degrees? ouch... Weather extremes make it hard, I think my next mod will be to pump the air conditoning to my garage so that I can work through the summer. I noticed the pic of your car. It's beautiful! Is is Silver?
weather....... Aw heck, Heat Wave!!!! It's up to nearly 40 degrees today. I actually took the gs around the block. Yes, it is silver/black. Thank you, i still think that gs's are the best looking of all the MuscleCars. I have a '71 LS5 Chevelle in my shop that i am redoing for a friend, and everyone that comes over flocks to it and ignores my gs, but i still like it the best.
Now I know I've been in AZ too long, 40 degrees is still way to cold, it's heavy coat weather! Hey I hear you on the Chevelle, I've always thought the Buick was way better looking. Plus if it's a stock LS5 it won't come close to keeping up with you. To tell the truth I really like all of the old A bodies. They were damn good looking cars by any standards. Growing up my buddy's had a 442 and GTO, and neither wanted to line up next to my GS. But they could buy parts anywhere, hell I think they could get headers at Target! I don't know about anyone else but when I was younger not getting any respect made me want to race, after I'd thump the Corvette or Chevelle or Camaro they sure didn't want to stop and talk anymore crap. Funny story... I move 950 miles away from Aurora CO (where I grew up) and I'm registering kids for Pop Warner Football in Arizona and a guy brings his kid up, I recognize the last name and look up and it's I guy I haven't seen for 20 years, we start talking about the old days and he asks me if I still have that Red Chevelle that was the fastest car in town? I explained that it was a Buick and yes I still have it, he just got this bewildered look on his face...NEXT! Then my teenage boys start ripping me because I've obviously left out the parts where I raced on old back roads (not quite the saint I made myself out to be)!!!
racing......... That's awsome....There weren't any old cars in my history, as i wasn't able to afford anything nice till i started building them myself a few years ago. I don't have any intention of selling my gs any time soon. I have owned it about 8 years now, and its already etched itself into my heart. Heck, my wife and daughter think its a member of the family. I have only had it done about a year now, and well, what is done? Improvements almost daily. It is great you still have your gs.....wish i could say the same. John
Well, it's been slow going but things are starting to come together. In the last two months I've hit a streak of good luck and I can taste sucess. First a quick clean up of the engine...
Last one......... I should have it by the end of next week....... In time for Labor day burnout pictures!!!!!!!!!!:beer
