You can go as big as a 275/60R15 on the stock rim. After that the tire starts to look a bit "bulgy", IMOO. I've had just about everything from a 245/60R15 up to my current 325/50R15's on the back of my car.

I wouldn't go any bigger than a 255/60/15, that's at the recommended limit.
    A 275/60/15 should have a minimum of a 15 X 8.

The biggest I've seen on the 7 inch rims was a 295/50's. Some like it and some don't. BFG doesn't recommend that wide of a tire on a 7 inch rim. If you want to go really fat you can always go with a bigger rim! :Brow:

I have 275/50R15 BFG Radial T/A's on 15x7 rims on the back of my 70 Elcamino, and I think they look just fine. Although they would look better on 15x8 rims though.

    7J =
    2.54 x 7 = 177 mm

255 tyre has a 255 mm width, so the tyre will stick 39 mm out on both sides of the rim.

    39 mm = 1.53 inch.

I have 295/60 15's on my GS and I love the look, with no problems at all getting them to fit.
It's not really recommended by the tire guys, but I hate a skinny looking back tire.
    Just my opinion.

Of course the fatter tires will physically mount on the rim, but that's not the whole picture. A wheel that is too narrow actually pulls the tire up around the outer edge, so it doesn't actually sit flat on the face, causing uneven tire wear and also affects the handling.
There's a reason the tire manufacturers specify a range for rim width, and I'm sure it's not just to take up space on a chart.

I don't have anything up close, and unfortuantely I don't have the car right now so I can't take any pictures. Here is a 275/60 on a 7 inch rim

    largest tire size

I've had both BFG 275/60/15 and 275/50/15 on my buick 15 X 7 rims. The 60 series rubbed in the wheel wells during hard turning or when I hit a big speed bump, not much but noticable. When I switched to the 50 series there was no more rubbing. Visually there is a big difference as the 60's did jack the rear up a bit and took up more space in the wheel wells so that when I switched to the 50's it looked a bit weird till I got used to the "smaller" look. I do prefer the 50 series look though as from the side it looks closer to stock size (sleeper look) and from the back its nice and fat like a muscle car should look. If you still need to see a pic (50 series now) send me an email mail and I'll send you a some pics.

Mine has air bags in it,and it does stand pretty tall, so no rubbing for me. I could see how it might though.
