Just learned summits B-4B's will not be in production until June. So I need an intake manifold. I do have a holley carb so must be square bore. No SP1, offenhausers, stock. Prefer newer race/street. Thanks.
Out of curiosity, how many people use SP1 intake and have no hood clearance issues? 69 GS 400 building 455
About the best drop base air cleaner for both performance and clearance is the Corvette L88 GM style. These clear quadrajets well and still flow pretty good. GM used them in a couple different cars but they are normally called the Corvette air cleaner base. I can use a 1" spacer on my intake in my 66' with this base and 64' to 67' cars are known to have very little hood clearance with a BBB. You should be able to run a SP1 with this base. https://www.corvettecentral.com/c2-63-67/air-cleaners/396-427/67-air-cleaner-base-l88-152180 Greg
Read through this thread, everything you need to know about air cleaners, https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?t...-cleaner-bases-stop-and-throw-it-away.363876/
Yes. That post Larry linked is good info. You do not want to use just any cheap dropped base especially these common ones pictured. The GM Style ones are known to perform well. Greg
Hi, I am Not interested in the performer Intakes at all. Sorry, being picky and listening to the old man. TA is starting machine work on the SP1s next week. Probably get one or get on the waiting list. Unless a used B4B or used SP1 for a holley 4150 comes up for sale
No, bad choice. Get the SP1 for the Quadrajet. You can use a Holley 4150 with just that thin plate. That is what I do. The SP1 for the Holley will not allow you to use a QJ without a thick adapter plate, or grinding the plenum opening wider at the back. The Quadrajet SP1 is the most versatile intake. Never say never, and never burn your bridges.
QJ SP1 is what you want. Pretty sure JW and your Dad would tell you the same thing. I can change carbs in 15 minutes.
I would tell you to buy a performer if one is available used, for a decent price. The new performer vs the new B4B make exactly the same power.. this is not hearsay, I actually dyno tested them, back to back. The new B4B is simply the top half of the B4B mold, on the bottom half of the performer. Flip them over, they are identical, as are the ports and outlet sizes. The only difference is that the B4B has the carb centered, where the Performer has it in the spot the Buick engineers intended it to be. And 500 bucks for what is at best 25 year old intake design is silly money. I would pay that if they made the intake we really need, which is a performer rpm, but they have no interest in that. They are only interested in confiscatory pricing for an old part. This is what happens when these private companies get sold to holding companies, that are more interested in the profit margin and the stock price, than the customers or the product. Pretty soon there will be only two or three giant companies selling us parts. They will be coming for the mom and pop operations like TA soon.. and I tell ya, the money they will offer from what I have heard, is hard to turn down.
Yea thats what my dad told me about the performers. Idk. April 16th the track opens up here. So I have time. Still need to buy exhaust. I got my headers from TA a couple weeks ago.
I was telling Jeremy yesterday that not too many years ago you would see b4b's for sale all the time for $200-250. Where are all those intakes at??
Even though Summit is back ordered, they are showing a price of $525 for an Edelbrock manifold. Maybe thats the reason people are hanging on to them.
