I had a 62 when I went to college. It had a 225 Buick in it and was built like a tank. The thing went about anywhere. The only time I had trouble was because I was poor, running highway tires, had such bad spark plug wires that it looked like the 4th of July under the hood at night, and needed a starter so I parked on a hill whenever I could. Would love to have another one some day.
I have two, working on a third. I have a 63 and a 64. The 64 has is a convertible top, which I didn't even know was offered. Both need total restos, the 63 is more for parts. There is a company that is offering a complete fiberglass tub for these for about 2500 bucks. probably the way to go. anyway, once my buick is out of the garage, Its go time on the scouts...
Cullen, I think I saw a 69 on the St.Louis Craigslist....very cheap.. and there is a 79 for 1 k on stl craiglist ......
I have a 68, its been plowing my driveway for 17 years now :3gears: and I can see the driveway thru the floor
I grew up with a couple of Scouts my dad had. One was a Traveller version with a diesel. The other was a Scout II. That was the more fun one. I had a blast in the summer as a teenager taking the hard top off and using the soft top. I would take it surf fishing and such. It was a great smaller 4WD vehicle. Wish I still had it.
If you haven't found one yet the Scout nationals are held Memorial Day weekend at the Cars and Parts Magazine spring swap meet/show at the Clark Co fairgrounds in Springfield, Oh which is definitely within driving distance for you. I made it in 1 1/2 hrs to Grand Lake-St Marys which isn't too far from you! Plenty of trucks and parts for these, just a thought:TU:
Good to know. I am spending a ton of money on my Skylark right now, this has taken a backseat to that. New front suspension, power brakes, new tires and new exhaust is starting to add up to some $$
