Other than taking a look at a couple rod bearings, nothing much else happened, Michaels hasn’t called about my heads being done yet.

I now have the front cover on and the oil is pumping to the engine. Seems I only lost about 5 lbs. on the gauge with the drill using the solids with a hole in bottom. Gonna need it the lift is high. Did not use Vaseline for oil pump I took the line off and used oil can to pump it in until it came out the filter hole then I put the filter on with oil in it, pumped more oil in the engine with oil gun, put line back on then used the drill and it pumped oil instantly.
I had 80 lbs with the drill before I took the old cam out and now with the solid lifters with the hole in bottom I lost about 5 lbs on the drill now it is at 75 lbs so I say we good, The intake is next and carry on, fire up should be soon.

I got it running had a few issues but the cam broke in real nice and it sounds real good you can hardy hear that valvetrain, can hear that solid lifter make that lifter noise normal with solids but very happy with the results. I have about the same cam as Mart's just not a roller not as much lift but about the same in duration. just have to run it for a few then I am going to have to put those inner springs in and will be good to go give it hell.

A very Special Thank You Very Much Mart for your help with Tool and Advice on getting this thing running.

Great things come in threes. Mine was done just before GS Nats. It's your turn!

Engine running very well have not taken it out for cruise yet, these boneheads did our road in poor mans gravel and just waiting for the gravel to calm down.
Got 5 inches of vacuum now in drive which made the carb harder to tune, still have the inner springs out so have to take it easy when I go out.
10 times quieter than with the hydraulic lifters, it has never been this quiet, this is cam number three.
Solid lifters that are quieter than hydraulics hmmm.. These have the EDM hole in bottom of lifter maybe this helps.
Does not seem to have lost much oil pressure than before change, so right now all is good and cam seems to take the break in well.

Don’t be afraid to drive it NORMALLY with just the outer springs.
Awhile back I just had my outers, was so happy the hydraulic lifters were silent from less valve spring pressure I got on it a few times, no issues, I would NOT recommend doing that on a regular basis tho:D
Happy to hear it’s working good for you!
How was the concert at the college?

Those edm'd oil holes probably offer direct oiling to cushion & quiet the mechanical lifter sound a bit.

I hope the ticking of solids is not from the lifter smacking into the lobe :p:p

That would be from the .020 gap given to the system. :p:D I went for a drive last weekend around couple blocks, one area I can get to 4 gear and lock up the trans. I was getting pinging but I had the timing up to 36 since the break in and I usually run 32* so I just left it there. I knew I could not really get on it since I have the inner springs out still.
I had to change the power valve to a 2.5 I only have 5 inches of vacuum now, I got the carb tamed down so it can idle at 750 in gear and about 1000 in neutral.

So today I change the timing down to 32* total and the initial is at 15 now. I took the carb off again and gave the secondaries a little more on the opening to let the primaries be closed some more to get a better handle on the idle screws. This worked out better as the car started up easily and was able to keep idling on its own after about 2 minutes of higher rpm about 1200.

I go out and I still notice a little bit of pinging if I start to push it down and I kinda figured it would be the recreational gas I used to start the car up and break in the motor. So I go back home and get out the 5 gal of race gas I had for about a year now and put all of that in. Well that made a difference no more pinging so I went down my area where I can step on it some went thru the gears moderately stayed under 35-4000 rpm went to overdrive and locked it up and heard no pinging.
So I think we are good just going to drive a little bit more and put the inner springs back in and give it hell.
There is a lot more power now I can just tell, this solid cam sounds good and rips right out of the hole.

Hey Demko better make a trip to the race gas store might need it:p
I will once again post up me some time slip:p

I DID find my race gas jug I bought two years ago still in the box:(
I was gonna use it for the track, but that hasn’t happened yet lol.

Go buy that gas tomorrow I usually run 5 gal then fill up with premium. Michaels sells it you just need your own can. Probably 9.50 a gal my brother said that is the price in Barberton at Rocky's gas station next to high school.

I’m going to run the gas thats in my tank out first, then refill with fresh 93 and see what happens first, ping or no ping?????
