Bitterness? Here's a quarter... call some who cares.. The analogy is spot on dude.. Achieving a sub orbital flight like this is no big deal, the reaction on this board identically mirrors the reaction of the general public.. which is a far cry from what it was in '61.. The technology to do this has long been known, nothing new was discovered or invented. Everything has been done before, from the tech for the rocket, the nuts and bolts of the launch, the trajectories of the trip itself, to the return of the booster to earth with a controlled landing. Ground landings for the crew capsule are straight out of the USSR's space program of the 60's. Yawn.. JW
This is one of those rare instances when I don't agree with JW. If nothing else, Jeff Bezos capsule has achieved a degree of confidence where the occupants do not have to wear protective gear. No helmets, no separate oxygen systems, and huge windows. NASA has never reached the point where they are willing to do this. Both Branson and Besos have. That of itself is a huge leap in technology.
Please Jim. This is the culmination of a 20 year project. The magnitude of people, resources and capital involved is 10x anyone's wildest dreams. Building a ship that can go to space is no 15 minute project. They did it, it worked, no one died. Sure its a boring flight, like any other test drive. Look at the big picture. It worked, whats next? "Some men see things as they are and say, why; I dream things that never were and say, why not"
Space shuttle payload is 65,000 pounds carried to 254 miles up. Bezos phallus is carrying 800 pounds traveling 60 miles high. Shuttle reaches 17,500 MPH. Bezos rocket reaches 2,350 MPH No real comparison. No new innovations going on here. At $28million for a ten minute ride the line to go will shrink fairly quickly.
Never imagined so many people that seem jealous or envious of someone that does something frivolous with his good fortune and just bad mouth them At least that’s how some in this group are coming off as Embarrassed to be part of this group with some comments in threads like this Like I said before some in the world would look at car guys with the same attitude as you all look at him Just a rich ahole He’s just a guy enjoying what life has afforded of him What better could any of you do if you had his wealth ?
What better could be done????? Really????,... Fund boys homes Support rape victims who carried child Support food banks Fund rural hospitals Fund schools that have been decimated by budget cuts Shriners hospital donation Elderly funeral arrangement donations Fund mobile meal operations Single mother college Support Build a housing unit for local homeless and provide counseling options Fund elderly home care operations,....but that's just me,....hell hire a group of elite mercenaries to hunt and track down the drug King pins and put their operations in the stone age for a few years
That is for the rich and famous to preach and the taxpayers to fund..... You have seen the TV commercials. I have no issues how rich anyone is or what they do with their money, just don't tell me what I should be doing with mine ( I am not even close to being rich). And, comparing this to what NASA has done is not even close. Its cool and could lead to further technology but hold the horses on comparing this to past achievements, he had a lot of prior technology to build off of, NASA really did not.
NASA launched a lot of sub-orbital rockets before they achieved orbit. As for the list of things Bezos could fund, he gave $400 million to charity on the day of the launch. There's nothing stopping anyone here from selling their toy cars and donating the proceeds to the charities that Hugger listed. The last thing that Jeff Bezos needs is publicity, and why someone on this board wants the guy that has provided thousands of jobs jailed is simply beyond me.
Alright, I didn't want to post anything like this, but what is the cost of his "thousands of jobs created"? How many mom and pop shops and small businesses have closed because of the Amazon machine? How many businesses have started selling out of country products to compete with his site at the cheapest price possible instead of employing Americans? How many out of country sellers are there on Amazon that he supports and support him? I think the thousands of jobs he has created has come at a negative net effect on the American economy. Call me crazy, but look at the big picture. People don't drive down to the local store anymore, they sit at home and get it hand delivered to their doorstep from a gigantic conglomerate selling things made and sold over the internet from a completely different country. Do you guys truly think the "thousands of jobs" he's created in a few warehouses, delivery services, etc. has really outweighed the NATIONWIDE destruction of businesses and local economies he has caused? Actually take a minute and think about it.
Keep thinking about it.. Bezos offered a new way to shop. America as a whole dropped local shopping. If it was important to the average person to shop locally then they would. The reality of the situation is the population would rather save a few bucks as proven by the success of Amazon. Same damn reason everything is made in China. We allowed it and even watched it happen. Now we bitch about it. Bezos may be the face of it but we did this to ourselves. People almost always put price over everything else..
I agree "we" did it to "ourselves", Joe. But I sure as hell am not going to go along with the idea that he is somehow helping the economy by creating a few jobs while his company has helped eliminate countless others.
Walmart has done more to put "Mom & Pop" stores out of business than Bezos. Walmart put thousands out of business before anyone ever heard of Amazon.
