I was pretty shocked to see my car in there as well. If I would have known that I would have sent a better picture. My brother called me from work to harass me a little.

DUDE...:eek2: We made the cover:grin:  :beer

Maybe we should work up a "boat racing" documentary for the next issue. I could offer advice on how to get reaction time down to a point where you can get by without needing a shave. I think most cars depreciate $500 in the time it took me to get moving. :puzzled:

Greg Schmelzer What are you looking at?!

    Yes, you must..

David, you should come on down. It is a blast. And by all means, bring people with you. They will also enjoy themselves.

hehe....the picture on the cover is almost exactly the shot in my avatar:grin:

I was really sluggish off the line at first, but I think Larry H. coached me into the mid .500's after a run or two....

I need a set of meats for my POSI rear end that may be coming soon....I've had quite a few members contact me about leads - much appreciated:beer

    I think I have finally found one....3.23 from a 73 Riv.

A story on Boat Racing would be awesome, of course, we have a Michigan Friend, with a "Real Boat" running a nailhead, I have pictures of it and "The Old Guy" has ridden in it, and I have made an appointment for a ride it in next year![IMG] Awesome!

That looks like an early 60s or late 50s CrisCraft V Drive. Being from Michigan myself I learned to love those at an early age. My favorite are the tapered transom speed boats.:bglasses:

    hmmm

I don't think that's a Chris at all, judging from the rounded raised coaming, stringer mounts and rear deck/transom layout. It looks like a left coast lake boat, maybe Elsinore or Tahoe region originally... left coasters were BIG on nailheads, FE Fords and early Hemi's for power, whereas right coasters were BIG on SB Chevy's and SB Chryslers, with a smattering of BB Chrysler's.

That's a good point about SB Chevys and Mopars. I never gave it a thought.:Do No:

    COOL!!

If I would have seen those pic's before, I would have known it was a Glen-L kit by the reverse transom area around the rear tabs. Probably has a Casale V-drive in it too... Oklahoma registration.

It's been too close to my fiscal year-end for me to get away for a long weekend. What are the dates next year? Not sure about driving the GS down, seems to be developing a knock lately... :(

Great Job Rick !!! another outstanding issue.....

News to me was that Mike Modena ONLY GOT PAID $410 FOR WINNING Quick 16 !!!!!!

That is more of an insult than a prize !!!! Jeeeez.....I bet he spent at least TWICE that in gas money just to tow ScrapIron II to the event.

    :Dou:  :Dou:

I think at the BPG Nats next August, we should put a empty 5 gal water jug out for donations to give Mike the winnings he deserves....and got cheated out of:spank:

Suggestion.....and Yes, I'll volunteer to be First

Once again, thanks to Rick Martinez and all who played a part in the Build Sheet. I would like to suggest as a new column or occasional feature a write-up on a car that is in process or will be. There's a lot of neat Buicks that aren't finished or even started yet that are nevertheless very interesting. Plus, I like to read about what people want to do their cars. For example, I have a 67 Skylark Convertible I purchased from the original owners with just over 75,000 on the odometer. The plan is to make a GS clone out of it. Its Blue with Dark Blue interior and light blue top. I don't plan to make it a radical car, just a nice looking street mannered car to ride around in and enjoy. I'd love to read about other cars people have that they plan to restore or fix up.

I'll go first with my car, Rick, if you think the idea has merit.

    Hey Rick!!

Thanks for publishing my pic, Rick!! :TU:

I'm very happy about it!! No complaints here, the picture made my car look mint!! I'm honored to be surrounded by so many bad GS's. My Skylark is no lame duck, but it is definitely cool to know that others appreciate my efforts, especially to publish my car in the in the club magazine. I didn't get home from the railroad till late in the week, and believe me it was well worth the wait!! I'm glad I wasn't forewarned. It was an awesome surprise!!

As for needing more material, maybe others should share some of the burden also. More Returning columnists, is an idea. Additional columnists could be responsible for a page or two with every issue. Four columnists could equal as many as six to eight pages. Additional columnists can be responsible for their certain region, expertise, or experience (i.e. racing stories or knowledge). Another idea would be to have a letters section, which may be posts taken from the V8 and turbo board. I'm not against reprinting material that is on the web pages in the Build Sheet. I rarely hit the turbo-board and the V8 board is large enough that I cannot possibly read every post on it. There is a copious amount of informative material that is found on the board that is worthy of publishing.

I'm sure you've looked into the suggestions I have brought up. I do want to say this. The BPG is a very young club and has gone very far since it has begun, but it is evident to me that there is a clear cut focus on the members and people involved in the group. That is a very important focus. Other car clubs miss this. There is allot of focus on the cars and yet the most important aspect, the people, is missed. That's something the BPG should take pride in and continue to focus on its people.:TU:

Well put Dave! I'll agree, retaining a columnist (whether it be a member, or Jim talking about engines for two pages) would be a great idea. Members stories would also be nice ( If I could think of something and became a better writer I would start sending stuff in). Maybe if participation merits we will get a Buildsheet that is a few pages longer than we've come to expect (another pleasent surprise).

I have to apologize. My earlier post was a bit strong. Don't get me wrong, though, I am delighted. My GS is a nice car, and I'm glad that others have gotton to see it. But I think my GS is intimidated by being on the same page as Greg Gessler's 72. I will also say that I am proud to involved in the first "BPG Members Profile" section in the newsletter, and happy to have been there with Dave Gramilow, Chris Cornett, Greg Gessler and, of course, brother Dave. Thank you for including me Rick!!

BTW...Dave, you need to update your sig. Don't you have another Buick now!!!
