All right all you school teachers out there:Smarty: .Hey this site is supposed to be about buick,s & car,s. So what my grammer is not perfect,i am doing all right. I play guitar pretty good, was in a funk/ rock band. Played a lot of dates in chicago & milwaukee. Now i know some of you smart guys ,can,t read music. I don,t think less of people who can,t read music . I am who i am ,get over it. I like cars & i,ve owned quite a few. So guy don,t be so uptight about spelling. I am sure as smart as a lot of you are ,you understand my point. You are not dumb. You guy,s have to have something to talk about.Or try to knock some one, to show how brilliant you are ,:Smarty:. Buick ,olds & mopar engines are great street engines. 425 Caddilac engines are pretty strong too. So how about a buick 425 olds 425 caddilac 425 mopar 426 shoot out. And the question was about the buick head ,olds bottom end combo. I know that some of you guys will try to uplift your self by trying to put someone down . Let,s talk car,s .

Do you mean a 472/500 cid caddy and a 426 cid Mopar shootout. I do not remember either making a 425. Buick and Ford did make a 425.

Olds did make a 425, I believe; The Toronados and maybe the Delmonts of the 66-67 variety?

Is he talking about a 426 hemi vs a 425 nailhead vs a 425 olds?

This thread is so messed up.

Cadillac's 425 happened between '77 and '79. It was a turd, but it gave me inspiration to try my EFI project in the '80's.

Agreed; giant boat anchor. The 500 cube Cadillacs can make some decent power with Bulldog? heads and an intake. I've seen some relatively mild-priced combos go over 1000 HP; which is crazy.

Well, a couple of buddies wanted to race each other. Oscar had a 1969 Riv. gs with the famous 430 engine, and Lovie had the 1970 Eldo. We lived on the west side of chicago , a one way in one way out neighborhood [5200-5300 w. on lexington street] and the dmv had a turnaround at the end of it. That was almost a quater -mile race. Well i bet on the riv . but the eldo smoked the right front tire and beat oscar,s riv . I lost my $10.00 on this race [1973].I could not belive it. Oscar was so stroked ,he did a ricer drive by and almost wrecked the riv, getting on the expressway. Well later on he demolished my 63 chevy ss .Hit 5 parked cars,on my block . Lost control ,i thought he was a great street racer. He had a 1969 440/rt charger 4-speed thay was very fast to me ,at that time. That incident taught me a lesson about stret racing. Don,t do it. The cost, far out weight the fun you get doing it. I loved street racing ,untill that happened to me. To this day i can not understand why the eldo beat the riv. The eldo has to out weight the riv,and front wheel drive too.The riv was running right. Just luck i guess. Any one experiance a fluke race like this?

I love Oldsmobiles but I also think Buicks and Pontiacs are cool too!

My father had a 1954 Buick Century convertible that was a beautiful car. My mother had a 1955 Buick Roadmaster 4 door hardtop that she loved.

My only Buick is a 1969 GS California and I will be needing a lot of advice from you all as I restore her!

We're not trying to be stuffy old school teachers, it is just that the proper syntax and proper use of punctuation & capitals etc. makes it much easier to read & understand. I am also poor at typing & spelling, therefore have to take extra care in what I type. FYI "don,t" & "oscar,s" and similar words use an apostriphy not a coma; "don't", "Oscar's".
BTW I agree Olds engines a great too.

spellingWell o.k i,ll try to brush up on my typing and syntax,or what have you. I,am not a english class major, but i have a lot of mother-wit. You know common sense. And i,ve put together a few engines too! I may not be the best , but i do pretty fair. So let,s talk about the virtures of the buick engine[ 430- 455] and the olds [425-455] i think these torque monsters were great street engines . I may love the olds engines , i like & respect the buick too. The only problem i,ve seen on the street ,with big block buick engines . Run hot a couple of times they start to knock, oldsmobile engines no problem.I,am not saying that a olds is run hot proof . What i,am saying is that the buick engine is prone to develop serious engine problems quicker with above normal temp,s. I,ve run an olds so hot that it blew the radiator hose off the water pump. Fixed that thermostat ,replaced hose and i did not have a problem. Also oil pump issues with the big block buick . But when that buick is right. that,s a very strong engine.I have a few friends that are old school buick owners, and one has a 1973 electra that,s nice looking but with about 175,000 miles on it that still has plenty of get up and go. Especialy for it,s size. I still love my 1965 [425] 98. Very strong & durable engine. So all you smart guys , talk about my lack of good writing skills, and anything else that might make you feel better about your self. After you get that off your chest ,talk cars. That is what we are suppose to be about.
Have a Great day everyone!! Me and my messed up typing,ha ha!!

An Olds 425 is a bigger bore version of the 400E Olds engine used from 1965-67. It is not the same series engine as the Olds 455. The 455 Olds is a big torque engine but I do not find the 400-425 series to be.

I've been downright cruel to this person and others in the past for the same reasons, and probably will be so in the future.

But thinking about a person-to-person interaction, it probably wouldn't be so bad verbally. The younger "texting" generation may be the same.

But this medium isn't verbal, is it. And that wasn't a question.

Maybe not so bad in a "person to person" verbally, but I get the feeling that I may as well have a conversation with a scat slinging monkey..sorry mr425olds, but you sound like you are full of lots of advice and little experience. Wait another 20-30-40 years, and then spout off.

    ps... syntax???

I get the impression that this person may not have another 20 years due to age.
