Hi, I'm trying to find my Dad's 73 GS 350 that he bought new. I'll try to start a t the beginning, he was at Larry Keene's used cars in Pikeville, Ky. when they brought in a Burgundy 73 GS 350 with a Red bench interior for the bosses wife. Needless to say the wife didn't get her new GS that day. A couple day's later she got a Black GS. Anyway my Dad's car came from Music Carter Hughes Chevrolet/Buick in Prestonsburg, Ky. They are still in business with different owners and a name change to Pop's Chevrolet/Buick. I have talked to the sales manager and he is going to check and see how far back their records go, so maybe I can get the Vin number if things work out. Since his car hadn't been registered to Larry Keenes used cars yet it was registered as my Dad as the first owner. As I said the car was Burgandy with Red Interior. It had a AM 8 Track in it and was also equipped with the sport steering wheel, it had sport wheels with beauty rings and AC. He also put a Tri Shield Hood Ornament on the header when the car was new. It also had most of it's original paint when he sold it. He kept the car until 88 or 89 and then sold it to the local Toyota dealer who proceeded to put the original window sticker back in the window and put it in their showroom. They kept it about 6 months in their showroom and then they took it to an auction probably in Lexington, Ky., Ohio, or In. When my Dad sold the car all the paperwork from when he bought it new was in the glove compartment. Dad's name was Leonard Coleman. My Dad passed away in 1992 and I would like to find this car and maybe buy it back if it is still out there and if it ever became available for sell. I know it's a long shot but you never know. Thanks Nicky
Did you see this old post with a 1973 GS 350 for sale? Don't know if it was the same one your father had: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?185972-Spotted-1973-Century-GS-for-Sale
Thanks for the link. That's not my Dad's car but if it was closer and if it is a real GS I would be interested. ---------- Post added at 10:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:59 PM ---------- I went to the dealer that sold the car new yesterday to see if they might have any old records so maybe I could get the vin number but all their old records had been destroyed. The sales manager who is a friend of mine suggested that I might check with the local DMV to see if they might still have records on it. I have a friend who is a cop so he is going to see what he can come up with. ---------- Post added at 10:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:05 PM ----------
Well it may not be your Dads old car but sounds like it could be its twin. Strangely enought with I got it I even found all the paper work in the glove box including the window sticker. Hopefully one day I will get it painted I hate the fact that its missing the decals. I buy them and put them on but I think I should paint it first. Do you have any pictures of your Dads car, I'd love to see them if you do. Mine came out of New Jersey/
It does look like the twin to my dad's car. His car was bought new from Music Carter Hughes in Prestonsburg, Ky. It still had the dealers nameplate on the trunk lid when it was sold. It still had most of it's orginal paint. I think the window sticker price was 5,080 dollars if my memory is correct. Are you sure your car has always been a New Jersey car? My Mom just past away a few months ago and we have been going through her things and I found two old pictures of Dad's Buick. They are not very good mostly just show the front of the car but I will scan them and post them if I can figure out how to post on here. If you have any more pictures of your car I would love to see them.
Good luck on your Dads car and welcome to the very best car forum in the world, great bunch of people here, keep us posted on your Quest, Johnny
If you click on the link in my sig you will find a photo album of the buick. I will try to take some current photos it looks better with matching tires and center caps. In the album I have a picture of the window sticker the total price was $5048.83. I also have the the pamphlet from where the orginal owner Junior J. Ritter of Mercerville, N.J. took delivery with a 150 miles. 12/9/72
Your car is almost the twin to Dad's car except his had a 1/2 vinyl top and yours has a rear defrost and his did not. He bought his new in Sept. 72 with 80 miles on it.
Well I hope you find it. I'd also really like to see those your pictures if you ever get a chance, and I am also curious what color was vinyl top and decals. I think mine were black. Here's another one that is burgundy with out a sport wheel. http://www.allamericanclassics.com/pics/project/73gransport.html
The vinyl top was burgundy and it had a small black stripe that ran from the header panel down the hood and the top of the doors and across the roof right behind the vinyl top. The GS decals on the quarters and the decal across the trunk were silver. I'll try and scan the pictures and post them when I get the chance.
I found a old insurance card in my dad's papers with the vin on it so now I have something to work with. The vin is 4D37K3H119834.
I have info on the car right before your VIN Last digits 119833 Bought in California. Was a Midnight Blue white interior 4 speed Stage one though. Have nothing on your Vin..
I do have a friend who is supposed to be checking for me but I haven't heard anything back from him yet. Keeping my fingers crossed. ---------- Post added at 10:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:16 PM ---------- That's getting really close. I was really excited to find the card with the vin, I was about ready to give up. I know its still a long shot that it's still out there but I keep hoping my friend comes up with something.
Well it looks like my search is over. My friend ran the vin and it came back no record found. So I guess it has been junked out. I will now have to start looking for it's twin. Thanks for all the suggestions and help from all of you.
Here's a couple picture's I found at my Mom's when we were cleaning out the house. They're not very good but it's all I could find.
Your dad's car may still exist... courtesy of Experian's AutoCheck (I can't give out free reports for other cars): Report Run Date 2013-09-10 22:06:59.435 EDT Vehicle: Buick (4D37K3H119834) 04/25/1997 DETROIT, MI Motor Vehicle Dept. I would be thrilled if this car somehow survived. It looks like this car changed hands in 2008.
