Nah, Nah, Nah, my head is okay, I think maybe the rabbit pellet pic jumped into your post, as craig said, he too seen it. Nice work and progress so far. :TU:
Skyman, Wow, small world. I too own a '69 and was an OC/OPFOR at Ft. McCoy & Ft Knox. The project looks awsome, as the LTC said, Don't quit. Jim Sailor Staff Sargent (Ret) '69 GS California 455 Stage 1/Muncie 4spd/3.31 12 bolt "Passes everything but gas stations"
Don't worry Jim, I've got too much invested to quit now!!! I got her all blocked in 400 last night, and just sprayed the FINAL coat of primer today. Can't wait to see it in color!
The final step I got her all blocked out in 400 yesterday, and sprayed the final coat of primer today. Next I'll block in 600, and shoot it with some color. Here's a couple of photos to keep you entertained.
paintshop fun Here's another. I would have pulled it all the way out of the garage, but it's tooooooo heavy to push back up the driveway!!! I should have some full view shots tomorrow.
I LOVE the flush mounted windows and shaved drip rails. I had planned on shaving my drip rails (or having it done, since I dont have the skill near of what yours is to do it myself) but the flush mounted windows is genius. I wont steal it as I like the Chrome, but its a great idea! Great job on the details and I cannot wait until the next installment.
Eric, shaving the rails is easy, it's making it look like it was supposed to be that way that is hard. This car had so much bodywork around the windows (with both the shaved drip rails and flush fit windows) that it took months, and literally thousands of hours of work. Every time I thought I had it perfect, I'd find a low spot, pin-hole, or unsightly corner that needed fixing. But, I think it will truely make my car stand out as one-of-a-kind. Because "There can be only one"... Mine! LoL. Thanks for the support. I think this forum is really the motivation that kept me going for these long 14 months, thanks to all you guys for your support and interest. Now, if only the editors for Car Craft were monitoring this site, I'd be golden!
After reading this post and keeping up with it , all I got to say is DAMN nice JOB!!!!!!!! :TU: :TU: If I had the money to buy you a good digital camara I would. I hope in the days to come that JW would make this tread a sticky so in years to come when we need some inspiration we can come and look at this. Dud all the mags in the world have nothing on you! :beer :TU:
Skyman, If this is your wish I see no reason why we should not try to accomplish it. Before I start emailing the magazine I wanted to run it by you. Why not let them know of the project, your hard and excellent work, and that we (you) want the car shown. This is the email of the editor: carcraft@primedia.com Let us know and I am sure that people would help with this cause. Why not look at a well done Buick instead of another chevy. Just a thought. o No:
Car Craft I'm gonna email him right now. I have been a subscriber for about 5 years now, and cannot EVER remember seeing a Buick on the cover. My 68 did get in as a readers ride though (about a year after I sent the photo). I just think it would be nice to see something other than a Chevy, Ford, or Mopar upfront. I think that we (as buick owners) should bombard carcraft with Emails and photos, until we get a slice of the pie. Thanks again guys for all your kind comments. Oh, and that's my 455 nestled in between the framerails... FINALLY
Here is a copy of the email I just sent to car craft.... Dear Car Craft, I have been a faithfull subscriber for about 5 years now. I love your magazine, and eagerly await my issue every month. One thing does bother me however.... In 5 years, I cannot remember ever seeing a Buick as a cover car. There are some beautiful modified Buicks out there, some with Prochargers, overdrive, turbo cars, big wheels, trick suspensions, cool body mods, you name it. I know you attempt to keep the diversity and I appreciate it. I also realize that Chevy and Ford owners outnumber us a gazillion to one, but how about just ONE cover with a nice modified Skylark or Riv on it? Check out my modified skylark project at http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=39756&page=1&pp=40 it's completely home built, and I've got 14 months/12 grand into it. There are a lot of guys out here putting a lot of effort and skill into their rides, with little apprectiation from the magazines they revere. So... Give us some love! Happy Buick...ing!!! Hey SkymanGS -- we haven't heard a thing from you since late February when the bulletin board lost a fews days worth of postings. Last heard you were actively pursuing a few of the name Car Rags about getting them to do a cover story of your efforts. Any news? Craig
No news, I am assuming since I have recieved no replys to any of my emails... That our cars are not "mainstream" enough for their intrests. I'm not too worried about it. I know how much work and sweat went into it, and I know that other Buick enthusiasts will appreciate it, that's what really counts. I haven't accomplished too much this month, my painter's giving me the run-around. This is the 6th week he has told me he'd be ready for it by Friday. I did get my bumpers welded up, and shaved though. I'll post a pic or 2 tonight. Thanks again for the support.
Smooth "Like a streamlined butterfly" Here is the a couple of shots of the work I am doing on the bumpers. I MIG welded the brackets to the back of the bumpers (on all sides of every bracket).
