We are watching primetime show business. They need to sell soap to exist, its exiting and fun but may be a bit fluffed. However there could be some bargains to be had in driver quality cars as its not worth writing a check for 40k for most. Now start document those street racing "stories" and get your Buick to Mecum next year!
Did anyone notice on the 70 White Stage1, that every time the brakes were pressed that the front turn signals come on? Is that how a Thorton resto leaves the shop?
That can be caused by using LED replacements. Also remember that restoration was done over 10 years ago I think and things may have been changed and / or messed with.
I had a turn signal switch go bad on me once, and that was the symptom. Drove me and @CJay nuts at BG trying to diagnose.
Re: the white 70 Stage sold for 200k @ Mecum: it is stunning to me when all of the details come together on a perfect restoration and The quality practically hits you in the face. That is the sweetest white GS I have ever seen. Yea, you guys noticed some details that were off that I didn’t….. but whatever… that car certainly has the beef and brought the money to prove it. There could have been an equal GSX Sitting right next to it and many including me would have walked right past it to put my money on this car…… it’s that good…. Steve weim55 Colorado
Wow! 3180 out of 4000 cars sold at Kissimmee for $234 million!! That’s an average of over $73,000 per car! If Mecum averaged only 10% per car that’ s about $23 mil for the house. Not bad.
The House always wins! And don’t forget Internet bidders pay 15%, and there’s all the Bidder registration fees and Admission tickets too. And Mecum owns a portion of those cars themselves.
Mecum gets 10% from the buyer and seller. They got 10% out of me.... https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0123-545784/1968-buick-gs-convertible/
I have driven the Indy Mecum event each year for the past eight.....all i can tell you is they have a professional staff that mostly have been with them for years and they put all the effort into presenting and selling your car at a venue that is set-up and decorated/designed to highlight the cars for auction. There have been several comments about Mecum auctions and what goes on but most are conjecture by peeps who have not actually been a part of the auction to see how the auction really operates....just my .02 cents worth.
