Try to take one day at a time
One day at a time. Try not to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. Take each day with your mom as a blessing.

Covid’s a weird virus; it has a lot of odd symptoms and it takes a long time to clear up for some. I had it 13 months ago and still have phantom smells and distorted sense of taste. Still have ‘fog’ events every now and then. My point is, don’t get discouraged that she isn’t snapping back immediately. It’s not a sign she’s not going to recover, it just means it’s going to be gradual. The fog will lift. The faculties will come back. Stay positive.

Thank you, Patrick! It’s a weird mixture of emotions with her being 98.
My sister had Covid and she still has zero sense of taste or smell after over 8 months, so wondering if Mom literally has the time to recover.
Been sharing shifts with my sister but neither of us can watch her 24/7 and my sister is planning on taking her to Georgia with her this Thursday since she can’t ignore her job of course.
She is also still handling all of our brothers affairs as which she said has “a long way to go”.
I help her how I can but I have zero clue on how to do anything but grunt work & even that sucks since I became disabled.
At least the MRI’s or Cat Scans will show if Mom has any neurological damage versus it being Covid related.
Either way at 98 if Mom keeps forgetting to call someone to help her to the bathroom (I did install a pressure sensitive mat with alarm yesterday so we can wake up) because if she falls and breaks her hip, that would probably be it being realistic.
We obviously just want our Mom back so just have to keep the faith and pray for the best outcome.
Mom wants me to have her 92 RoadMaster (or did before this current condition) it’s no spring chicken either but I have kept it very well maintained for her so hopefully it will be reliable going back on the highways for hours at a time instead of the couple miles a week trips it has done for decades.
Anyhow, I want to get over to Moms house and sit with her so my wonderful sister can go sleep in her bed instead of the recliner next to Mom.
Just many questions & lots of emotions and none of us are getting any younger but going to keep the faith.
Thank you again for sharing my friend.

    Hey Fritz,

I just read through this thread and I want to say that we all wish the best for you and your family, it sounds like it's been quite an emotional roller coaster! Glad to see that things are doing better now. Got to say that it's nice to see such a strong and supportive community here at V8. We're here for ya man!

Yes, and we all know when we ask for prayers and support that people have their own lives and trials but sometimes just a quick “thinking about you” or wise advice from those who have already traveled the same path can make a difficult day encouraging enough to face another day.
    I really appreciate everyone’s input.

    Warmest Regards,
    John

Max Damage I'm working on it!

Glad she's home, but sorry about her difficulty. I know how hard/impossible that is. The worst is when you find yourself snapping at them, even though you know it's not their fault.

Also, I have to say that my mom finished her life hear in Seattle in an independent/assisted living place, and it was FANTASTIC. The people were super kind and friendly, the facility was clean and bright, and even the food was good (I went almost daily for lunch). I know I was unbelievably lucky in this, but keep in mind it IS possible, Also she loved the company of the others and the "events" that were happening all he time in the facility.

    Hang in there!

Check into in home assistance, too. Some insurance covers it (and possibly in home physical or occupational therapy). Even eithoit coverage, a ‘sitter’ can be hired for $15 an hour or less; a few hours a day, a couple days a week csn really relieve some stress. (Went through it with my mother and am doing it again with the MIL).

    Morning John,

Thanks for checking in my friend.

Mom sounds wonderful on the phone (in Georgia as you know with sister) and I am happy to say is doing great other than a little leftover fatigue from the Covid (or being 98! I said).

It is a MAJOR praise and I appreciate everyone’s input & prayers.

I really miss Mom being in town where I can visit & help her but I have to keep reminding myself we are blessed that she can live with my sister and brother-in-law,but I still miss her majorly as well as my brother.

Again I have to remind myself that the blessing is my brother is out of the terrible pain he was in from the cancer, but I am not going to lie and say I don’t miss his laugh & us emotionally supporting each other through both our bouts of depression.

It has gone from Mom and my brother and me in town to just me so I have to be very diligent about maintaining my medicine and continue praying & exercising.

I am hoping to repair one of my trucks enough to make the round trip to Georgia but between clearing downed tree’s & my rigorous exercising I don’t have much fuel in my tank to do a bunch of ground work & with it being dance season the daughter & wife’s cars aren’t available on weekends.

Anyhow, not going down that negative road as I can already feel it pulling me down.

    Back to the positive!

Mom is much much better,Tommy is out of pain,my weight loss continues,my walking distance continues,we have a roof over our head, floor under our feet and most importantly a Lord who has never left us in even the worst worldly trial’s and we are blessed.

I pray you and yours are doing well also.

    Sincerely,

    John

    Hi Fritz!

That comment about your brother hit home as I feel the same way about the brother I lost 6 years ago to cancer. I have some really good memories to counter the sadness though.

Glad to hear that you are doing well. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll be able to go wherever you want in no time!

Well, yes & no, even though taking,my meds, exercising and behaving myself (except for one night) a depression has had me in a strong grip for a couple weeks.
Even on nice days I just drop my head and walk by my car.
Seems my passion for about everything is gone.
I have a Doctors appointment this week, I can bring this up at but then he will leave and a nurse will come in again with the laminated, wet wipe, “suicide questionnaire” which I will “lie like a rug” on .
If I can’t discuss it confidentially with my Doctor verbally I’m damn sure not filling out a wipe off sheet. Really insulting.
I just wish I understood what causes these things & I know you guys are of tried of hearing about it as I am having them.
    Anyhow, I will shut up.

Appreciate it and YES, damn that paperwork.
Well the day was salvaged, I pulled the cover off my car, got my door panel I have been working on out on the roof hoping it will lay flat again, used Gorilla tape to cover the open blower motor and a/c damper hole from spider and hornets then wife wanted to check my 1/4 mile walking trail I have been working on.
She had suggestions for a new section deeper in the property so I fixed a flat on the John Deere, then replaced the junky battery terminals it came with and spent the rest of the day hauling dead limbs and cutting them down and then made a real nice new section of the trail and got the dogs to walk it real fast with me right before the sun winked out.
My watch said I did 3.79 miles during the day so probably released some endorphins so feeling better and got some good stuff done.:)
