Bruce, Long Island has been without a track for so long. I don't think anyone will be picky about what it is to start. They just want to run their car. If we can get something going here, the future will be bright.
Ron Steiner's 67 GS. Ran a Stage 2 455. He wound up finding the car in Maspath queens and buying it back. I think there's a post about it here from him
Heard from Steve last night. There were a lot of cars there, so there is plenty of demand. Unfortunately, Steve was 5 cars away from his first run, and it started to rain about 9:40 PM. That was the end of racing.
Was there yesterday as well but left before the rain. Must say I hope this is a start of something good. Like an all Buick event.
There were to many cars there because of last Sunday's rain out over 400 cars i waited on staging lane for 3 hours got 5 cars away and it rained traction was a big problem because they were not allowed to prep the track but it was still very cool if they can turn it into a real track it will be perfect
The tree huggers were worried it would go into the ground the runway is 3 ft thick was used by f14 jets
I think it is a little misleading to blame it on "tree huggers". The local community DOES NOT want the track there period. Environmental concerns are just one of MANY excuses they'll try to use to ban the racing. Read this article, https://www.dragzine.com/news/the-long-wait-is-over-long-island-new-york-is-getting-a-dragstrip/ The track is in the middle of nowhere. What's the big deal?
Yup 3 ft of concrete covered in asphalt. Pretty smooth. I made 1 pass after 2 hours in lanes. In lane 5 for 2.5 when rain came. Was that you next to my black chevelle? Silver Gs w vinyl top too? I made 1pass. Was first car teched, lol.
You should have said hello you were next to me ? 3 hours I waited then the chevelle hit the wall took out timing blocks then the computer problems then Pete goes start them up boys we got a hour left i put the car in drive to pull up RAIN SOB
Tomorrow night, the temperatures will be in the 60's. Talk about mine shaft air. Too bad no one has any traction.
