Where can I get the best (original style) air cleaner decals. I some and don't care for the difference between it and the original. I really don't want to use the ones I purchased from one of our suppliers.:Do No:

Not sure about engine decals, but the Northeast Chapter (John Csordas it the guy to contact at NCsord4@aol.com) has the best Air Cleaner Decals!

    "new" repro air cleaner decals

    Greg,
Would a faded original "GS455" help you? And could I get it back (or perhaps a facsimile thereof:Brow: )?

Check this out guys. New engine repro decals. Embossed!

    http://www.drdecal.com/DrDecal.htm

Found an email in my inbox from him. Don't know how he found me. :Do No: Just click on the Buick link. This guy has been apparently doing these for years for Oldsmobile and has recently started to expand to other makes. Maybe we could get him to do other stuff too.

    Ken,
It looks as if almost all of them are embossed---- EXCEPT FOR GS455!

I sent the guy an email to inquire. That's kind of weird.

See, we Olds guys look out for you.

    :Brow: :Brow:

Mark Cornea is the best in restoration decals. He's been doing this for many years and is a close personal friend. He came with us to Casey Marks' winter shindig and spoke with Dan Jensen, Scott Tieman, and Bob Boden on getting into other GM models. You won't believe the quality of his stuff. He's a perfectionist. He's been selling direct as well as through the major Olds resto companies (Year One, Fusick, and Supercars Unlimited) for years.

We steered him to this website as we all hang out on the "Other Guys" area in Pure Stock and Stock Appearing. You're welcome.

Guys, Dr. Decal needs some assistance on his research. Here is an exerpt from an email he sent me....

....... As far as other parts, I only re-pop decals. What I want to do next is "A" body jack instructions 1964-72, and what I need to start with is factory prints.

The valve cover decals that I have are as follows: (not on the web site yet, they will not scan well, need to take digital pic's) ......... also, I don't know what year and models these cover.

    Buick 300-2
    Buick 340-2
    Buick 340-4
    Buick 350-2 valve cover

    Mark Cornea

.........can anybody help?? Also can we come up with a list of other valve cover decals and what year cars they went on? Lets post them here or email me and I will compile a list and email Mark. We gotta get the big block stuff too! And if anyone has a factory print of the jack instructions, please email me or Mark directly to discuss possibly using them to create decals.

    Marks email addresses are:

Has anyone ever used Phoenix Graphix company for decals? I was kind of curious about their "Technical" set.

    Just curious.

    repro decals

guys- is the 'gs350' decal proper for the 72 gs
or is the '350-4' the correct decal for the ram air box? have purchased repro decals from cars & year-one . no matter how clean nor what chems i use to prep the receiving surface , on the ram air box, attached to the breather, the decals shrink, bubble or just plain do not adhere to the surface.
the repro gs350 decals also seem to be too large
    for mounting location .
i removed a '350-4' decal from the ram air surface
. do not know how long it was there but it was well adhered to the surface. it was also at least
50% thicker! i too am looking for quality decals !
    that is my $.02 worth.

    DECALS

I purchased a number of decals from dr. decal and most of them are not even close! The door jamb decal is WAY off color from all the samples I have. The letters (font) is not even the same. With all of today's technology and fancy computer programs available, I'd think getting these things right on the money would be easy. I'll be putting my scanner to work and making my own. The air cleaner decal is not embossed and the color is not correct.
I offered to provide him with close-up pics of my NOS air cleaner decal for better repro's but he didn't bite. I guess, if he's happy with his Buick products, theres no steering him in the right direction.
I'd happily pay two to three times what they sell for now to have stuff "right". Why bother to even make them at all if the original patterns are not followed.

    Re: repro decals

    Hi Gerry -

I have owned an original, unmolested 1972 GS350 and here is an engine photo. It is the GS350 decal. The 350-4 decals were for non ram-air air cleaners (I had that decal on two cars, both Skylarks - a '70 and a '71).

    gs 350 breather decal

    guys:
purchased a gs350 decal from john csordas .
excellent quality & fit & it adheres to the
ram air box the way it should .
    year-1 and cars have garbage gs350 ( probably gs455 also) decals . the year-1 and cars gs350
decals are thinner, do not adhere well, and are
    much thinner .

I'm sorry you ween't satisfied with Mark's decals, but do your homework before you start criticizing people personally. He just started expanding into other BOP applications after supplying 100 pt. restorations for Olds for the last 20 years and asked for assistance from the experts in developing them to not only your satisfaction but to a much higher level- his own. If he didn't answer your your bait, I don't blame him. Go back and read your own words.

Some of you guys are worse than the Mopar people. Try working with someone to develop this stuff, not trashtalk them personally.

I hope he drops his Buick development and continues with the Pontiac development and the Olds supply. They're a lot more professional to work with. Meanwhile, we'll keep him plenty busy with the Olds stuff. Call Year One, Supercars Unlimited, or Fusick Automotive. See what they say about Mark personally as well as the quality of his product line. I'll ask them about you.

    DaveH,

Go back and read your words. After reading your words, I ordered a bunch of labels from Mark and they didn't seem as though a "perfectionist" had created them. Seems like if he went the extra mile, I'd be very much more complementry.

The foil air conditioner decal isn't foil, The door jamb decal is the wrong color and neither of these have the correct type set.
The air cleaner decal isn't embossed, nor is it the right color.

I offered to work with him...that is I have an NOS aircleaner decal for sample. It's not for sale but the offer was there so he could make the air cleaner decals "right". He's very close.

He never offered to return my money and I didn't ask.

Sorry if I offended your friend. I'll edit my post .

I can kind of see evryones point here. On the one hand, you shouldn't really be marketing and selling "perfect" parts that aren't.

On the other hand he just got started, so he says, making these.

My only suggestion would be that Mark "perfect" these, then sell them, not the other way around. I'm sure his Olds and Poncho stuff is real nice. But he probably shouldn't be selling the Buick ones unless they are absolutely correct.

He was nice enough to send me a bunch of free samples to show guys in the Carolinas chapter, and I'm going to send them down to them and let them make their own decisions.

Seems John Csordas has the corner on this market so far, and his are real nice, so it will take more than average decals for Mark to be successful here. IMHO, some of his decals are real nice, some are OK. SOme are embossed, some aren't. I just think he's got a little more work to do. He's close.

We should be thankful ANYBODY is reproducing ANYTHING for these cars. Especially 69 stuff.

Isn't that fellow Jim? Osbourne in the decal biz anymore? He offered a large selection. I bought Buick engine decals/spare tire decals etc. from him years ago. What I got from him was very high quality. They've held up over the years too.

I heard the Jim Osborne passed away. I have no idea whether the company is still in business or not. Years ago I got 68 valve cover decals from him, and they were not embossed.
