Sorry I misled you The words were a little too personal sounding, Matt, that's why I took offence with what you wrote. You attacked him personally, that's a little unprofessional to me. Enjoy your Osborne decals. I think I see what's going on here.
reply Dave, Never bought any decals from Osbourne...FYI. I'm looking for the best repro's I can find for my two cars and also for a friends GSX and his other three GS's. I'm not sure what it is you think you are reading into and really don't care as, my intentions are only to better the the pool of repro parts available for the whole industry. I was asked to report my findings to and by several other board members and thats what I'm doing. Like it or leave it. I don't see anyone else spending money on stuff that may or may not ever get used and not asking for their money back! Hope you are happy with mediocre(sp) stuff. This is an open forum (hopefully) to provide, in part, honest feedback about the industry we support. Thats what going on here! I had no intentions of insulting anybody personally. Matt
That's a good point. I'd much rather a correct paper decal, even if I have to replace it every couple of years. Should be cheaper too.
Emissions decals FWIW, I just got a '72 BE emissions decal from OPG and the only things it has in common with the original is the overall size and the words in general. However, the corners are even curved differently. Fonts and graphics are totally different, and line thicknesses (ink strokes) are way off. Even the picture showing the timing marks is different. Richard, as far as originals being paper, some may have had a paper layer (I haven't noticed), but they were definitely coated so that they had a nonporous surface. The emissions decal, in particular, wouldn't have lasted too long if it was all paper. But none of the ones I've peeled off seemed to be paper. Not sure about that. Also, I have an original '72 BG radiator cover and I don't see "Stage 1" on it anywhere. Maybe it was one or two particular years only? Finally, I think I'll be doing my own, too, in the future. At least my emissions sticker, to start.....
On modern repro stickers the finish is glossy. 30-year old decals are not at all shiny. But, the question is, what did they look like 30 yrs ago? Glossy or paper-looking? Glossy looks wrong to me, but maybe because all I've ever seen are 30 year old originals?
