Mine got shipped last week from T-A to Scotty Guadagno in Florida. Gonna use my 4.400 stroker crank with new set of pistons (4.500 bore) for a 560" mill. My old Stage 2 heads, with the T&D rocker setup and a BIG roller cam. More details to come.

Great news Doug. Just watch Scotty doesn't put that motor in his Camaro!

Why? So he can go slower?
BTW, You know what I think is good karma? I was the 19th member when we formed the BPG (member #1019) and I got the 19th T-A block! I thought that was really cool!! :beer

estimated HP ? estimated completion date ?

My 523" and 525" combos with that crank put out 840 HP and 740 Tq....
I'm going to guess 900 and 800 but it's just a guess. It will definitely be dynoed before it goes in the car so I'll make sure to update, most likely in the "build-up section. I'll start a thread when I have more to report. :TU:

    Doug,
Almost 6 months to the date of this post. I didn't make any of the BPG events or northeast events. I didn't hear anything I saw no posts..Basically how is it going and what stage are you at?

Not much to update. Needed a new set of heads and it's been an issue getting them. Not sure if Scotty is waiting for the heads to arrive from TA before he builds the shortblock, but regardless, I should have been out racing with the new motor this year, and I'm not. Hopefully, the finished product will make me forget my annoyance when all is said and done.

Doug, you driving this thing yet? What's the scoop?

The head porting was completed by TA, but there were some delays with the back and forth between Scotty and Mike as to exactly which valves we'd be using and now that that's sorted out, the heads have to go to T&D for the rocker arm conversion. Then they can go to Scotty and he can finally build the engine. I believe he has the rotating assembly sitting in boxes, waiting until everything is under his roof before he puts it together. Anybody got a race-ready shortblock for sale? I can buy it, fix my old heads one more time and go racing this season, instead of sitting around getting aggravated for another year.

Doug --I am sure you noticed that Ken Betts is working on some 500 CFM heads maybe with TA. I understand they are race only and do not have water jackets. Will these not work for you?

Never heard of them. Doesn't matter at this point, as I've already purchased the Stage 2 TE heads that Mike's been working on. I also don't really need anything exotic, because my car is certified to 8.50 and it's already run 8.74 and a bunch of 8.80s and there's no way I'd spend the huge amount of money on the cage and chassis that it would take to upgrade my car to a 7.50 cert. Just with the parts I have already and the car set up the way it is, I should be right at the 8.50 threshold and that's where I want to be. I'm not looking to set the world on fire.

Shouldn't you be busy going home and getting your own F$@&n shine box? :moonu:

    Hey Doug,
Do you have flow sheets for your heads that TA did for you?
    Cheers

Nope. Never even asked Mike what the numbers were. I'll ask him the next time I call.

Talked to Mike last night. He said he didn't flow the heads yet, but when he does, he'll send me the flow sheets. He said he'd expect cfm numbers in the area of 370 to 380 by the time he's done "massaging" them. He said he and Scotty hashed out what they want for valves, which Scotty was going to have Manley provide, and he's just waiting on Scotty to get the valves over to him.

Thanks for the link. Now that I've read up on them, I'm sure I can't afford them and they're definitely overkill for my combination. Also, my team only has one member.

Spoke to Mike. Heads are at T&D getting the rocker setup built. Once they finish, the heads go back to Mike so he can finish and flow them, then on to Scotty. Scotty siad he needs a week to build the motor once he has the heads. We'll see. At least I'm seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.

Well, two months later my heads are back at TA and Mike said his guys are doing the above mentioned finish porting as we speak. He hopes to ship them by the end of this week or early next week. I went for the upgrade to billet steel rockers instead of aluminum. They cost more, so they MUST be better!

I am also using the steel rockers because with blown nitro we cannot afford an exhaust rocker failure. Reliability is always far more important than one horsepower. Just ask Jimmy Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Tony Steward who all had engine failures probably due to a valve spring, all in the same race. OUCH! Good luck, and our 500 cfm heads are getting closer, then 540-550 cfm billet heads, then 645 cfm hemi heads for the TA block for those who want to run low 5's or 4's with a big enough sponsor. ken
