Yes I did try the G-70's with the 3500 converter. It was a bear to launch, very inconsistent on the 60' times. The 60's ranged from 2.00 - 2.30. The engine was up on the cam so quick in conjunction with the torque multiplication it would either kill the 60' or blow the tires away.
Remember this is a 455 Buick torque, a small block may not have that problem.

Assume you're referring to a small block Buick? :pp :pp

I would think a 3500 convertor would be very similar to a 3500 launch on a stick shift car. Even my car blows away the tires on every track except Norwalk launching at 3500.

Watching Gessler's car raise up as he brings it up on the convertor tells the story. Wonder if he has Viagra in his front shocks... :eek2:

Dan and Bob have volunteered to do a minny cert of the Factory Original cars and the PS cars for this event. Items Dan discussed:

    Pull carb confirm factory jetting
Use bore scope to check intake and intake port
Pull valve cover and check rockers etc.
    Pull rocker and P&G motor
    Bore scope bottom end
Confirm factory exhaust or correct show exhaust like a Gardner only for Fact Org cars
    Confirm correct suspension setups
Bore scope trans to check for illegal light weight parts...
Check distributor for correct factory settings, Factory Original cars only
Bore scope cylinder and piston thru spark plug hole

I thought this sounded like a simple low impact way of confirming the legality of each car. Any objections?

I'm pretty sure my 72GS Stage1 is original 49K miles never screwed with. Interested in testing as a baseline? Sure it's a 72 not a 70. But i'd put it up against a 72SS LS6.

Man, that would be cool for the Pure Stocks........

but I doubt that will happen because of the certified cars that are already there.....

I just got real interested in this. The ramrod came from the factory already tricked out with same jetting/ secondary metering system as the 68 Hurst Olds and healthy timing already dialed in.

Factory tire pressure settings, too? :Brow: :Brow: :Brow: :Brow: :Brow:

Which means what? No room for new ones anymore? Or is it a a confidence factor that another one could be original and just show up after so many years in hiding?

Nah, what I mean is that they already have the certification process, so Bob and Dan probably would not have the time to come up with another certification process for Virgin Stock......

Virgin Stock. I like it! We'd have to set the maximum # of vestal cars to 52, though to be P.C. these days.

I'm sure you would put it up against a 72 LS-6 Chevelle :puzzled: LOL.......They didn't make a 72 SS Chevelle LS-6! Low compression on a 3900lbs rect port headed car with the increased emissions would be a pig. Too much intake port and camshaft if carried over from the parts bin. I really think the parts would be miss matched. :eek2:

Jim are you suggesting that would be a receipe for a boat anchor? We could have another entirely new class called Slow Virgin, sorry now I am channeling another web site.

Well, you got the goods on how that 71 low compression LS-6 motor turned out. Drop the goods and prove me wrong. Tell me how those over sized ports worked on that 9.5 compression motor.LOL............................

Let me see. Isn't a virgin suppose to have small holes(ports) than big ones? At age 41, I'm all confused!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more LOL............... :moonu: :TU:

    Slow Virgin LS6

Jim I am working on the low compression/aluminum head/sizeable cam issue currently. The block is rough bored and we are on our way. Hopefully by Feb. I will have the answer from the dyno.

BTW it was nowhere near 9.5 to 1 from the factory. The amazing thing is Larry goes quick in that car with 3.36 gears and the motor never having been out of the car or apart. Plus till this fall he was still running the original exhaust. The new motor and gears should really wake her up.

Do not worry you bass boaters we are setting the original motor to the side. We will not take an all original 13/K car and risk it/wreck it.

Casey thinks she will make the goods, I hope he is correct.

I AM excited about how much HP can be achieved with a '71 LS-6. Whatta friggin' awesome combo ! Larry needs to let me loose behind the wheel just ONE time so that I can get my ya-ya's out ...... :bglasses:

Just look at this years race results ..... Tim Clary made 454 REAR WHEEL HP with his iron headed '70 LS-6 ! That is some killer HP !!

    rdl ...stocker 'n stocker

I had always thought the published numbers were calculations of SAE Net HP at the flywheel? No slight to you Casey, but does anyone know for sure what the numbers represent? Dan or Bob?

I think we go discuss this every year...and while most folks say it's hp @ rear wheel, I'm with RDL on this, I think it's more indicative of *net* hp @ flywheel. I was one of the FEW brave souls that made some pulls on the chassis dyno at Stanton 2 years ago, and I was nowhere NEAR 449hp at the rear wheels...would be nice, but I don't see it... :Do No:
