Nobody can argue the fact that certain application will benefit from this new manifold such as yours. You of all people know an overgeard, convertered Stock Eliminator car is a different animal compared top 95% of the vehicle on this website is all But for a 3800-400 pd Skylark with small cam,no gear and a 2500 stall will the area under the curve still favor a single plane or a dul plane??? I suppose we shall see:TU: P.S.- Any way to get a pic of that intake from the front????????????? Also looks like it is drilled for both a Spread and Square bore pattern carb??????????????????????
And have oversized rear tires with a low (7.7actual) compression engine. More often then not stock stall. The guys who do the combo correctly get results . the ones who don't (mostly cheap a$$es) end up complaining and don't want to spend anymore because they are disappointed and think its a waste. First we need a least 2 new cam choices.the off the shelf stuff is inadequate. Many low compression engines have made 400 or more with custom Cams. Scott Brown custom grind is 18 bucks more than TA cams . well worth it for the power gain . and when doing a rebuild why is everyone afraid to deck block? We know its over spec. Knock .020-.030 off that thing. That will net about 8.2 real compression with standard pistons. Even the 212 would like that compression. But back to the intake. I would like to see the torque curve produced by this combo. HP numbers are nice but for those guys not running deep gears more torque will be what is needed.
Was thinking about the "who these intakes would be good for" remarks and everyone has forgotten the No2 guys. With a duel plane intake you're limited to around a 150 HP shot of nitrous, BUT with a single plane intake a 500 HP shot could be used if one would want to use that much. So even the guys running less the 245* @ .050" could benefit from a S/P intake if they like street manners, mpg and like to spray at the track. So now a 350 HP street sbb 350 can run a 200 maybe 350 HP shot of No2 run 11-10s at the track and drive home and get 20 + miles per gallon with O/D. About time the sbb 350 got a S/P to play with, thanks TA! Derek
Valid point about the power adder folks I personally think the dual vs single plane thing is played out. My only concern for this is wether or not the CAR/DRIVETRAIN wants/needs the single plane as i believe even a mild combo for a street car can and could use a single plane manifold if its geared / convertered more aggressive I still believe if you have the gear and converter for it,then itll shine all over
That is one sexy intake! The Qjet looks right at home on top of it too. VERY nice! These are exciting times for us SBB enthusiasts, even us mild/stocker guys. Who couldn't appreciate the appeal and beauty of that intake? This intake sitting on top of those aluminum heads is going to transform the Buick 350 into quite a formidable opponent to other similar CID competitors! (yes I know it could be argued that it already is) This bodes very well for TA Performance in both sales and Buick 350 popularity, and to think the heads are yet to come! This may very well encourage additional aftermarket parts/support for the Buick 350 as well. Thanks for all the hard work, to the engineers, testers, and supporters. Thank you everyone. /salute p.s.-Sean was just excited, as we all are. Gary
Is that intake a partial "air gap" type or is it just an optical illusion? In the picture in the center at the bottom it sort of looks like there is a gap between the plenum/runner area and the area that covers the valley.
It has a full air gap . look at pics posted in sticky poll for intake and heads. The pic is how intake will be.
I doubt it. Pretty much everyone I've spoken with (even the hardcore racers) has found negligible performance differences between SP1 and SPX (air gap). Devon
hey , maybe mike will make ya one with an extended rectangularish plenum/mount area for a blower . mmmmm , probably not .
It would be really sweet if TA said it's ready for order this week since I'm already ordering $1500 worth of goodies from them...
Hi folks, Sorry it's taken so long to get to this point. Gary has been trying to get us to finish this intake for years and with his involvement I felt he should see the first one. Folks, I would like to share what the parameters were while we were in design. As folks have mentioned 95% of the people will be driving on the street. This intake is designed with that in mind. The runners are about as long as the dual plane to produce good street manners and fuel economy. With the lack of heat to the plenum, cold morning starts maybe a little tougher. The two TA intakes will have there place. The runners in the SP-3 intake narrow down as they get closer to the head. You can actually feel the transition. This happens after the turn in the runner. This will make it easier when porting the intake. You will not need to do much work in the turn which is a very hard place to work. SP-3 intake is designed for QJ, Holley and we can even put a Holley Dominator pattern in. I thought there might be a few that would like that if you were to use the 750cfm Dominator carb. When the intake is machined of the dominator the STD Holley hole pattern over laps the dominator, so the intake would be a Dominator intake only. I think it would have a real cool factor. You will need a set of intake bolts as they are all the same length. This was not my doing, so please don't thick this was done to sell bolts. The pattern maker did this, he had a reason at the time. The tooling is heading back to the foundry. We had to make the injector bungs a little taller. It will still be a couple months before we will have intakes to ship. We are working on the 350 aluminum head pattern at this time.
Thanks Mike for putting this project together . it should compliment my big bore 350. Im sure others will appreciate your work.
Awesome work, few months sounds about on par with when I'm mounting turbos. It's an exciting time to be a small block guy for sure. I'm glad I didn't take the easy way out...
Thanks for the info Mike, much appreciated! I am super excited to get the new heads and intake to Chris Skaling for porting.... Then putting them on my girdled block with billet crank etc....
