Well, I'd say back in 2006 you might have jumped the gun a little. I think the inflated, insane prices continued through 2008 into 2009. I truly feel they've peaked and will NEVER be where they were. Only time will prove me right though. I have a buddy who's been collecting rare RAIV cars and other various Pontiac cars, 455 HO Judges and GTOs, and he was basically going to retire on this money made from these cars, many of which need to be restored still. He's all bummed because what was worth $200k 3 years ago is now struggling to bring $80k. I told him those days are over, how long did you think it could last???

  2. Just an observation, " a car is not an investment, it is a liability." My $0.02 on the matter.

Locally, I have seen some cars sell for really cheap money, and others bring double than I felt they were worth. There is a proverbial ass for every seat. And, how well someone markets their car dictates pricing as well.

I actually remember when Dave posted this comment, and it didn't really make me think about what he was trying to say.

Today, I know EXACTLY what the last part of that statement means. I sold-out a few years ago, kind of the "know when to hold em,know when to fold em" mentality. I was going to sell high before prices went in the tank, and I did,and it achieved what I needed to do financially at the time, when I was out of work and the house needed a new roof(have you priced shingles lately?)
However, today I find myself in a position financially, where I can't afford to buy "back in".

I'm not feeling sorry for myself, it's just that if I'm going to remain in this hobby, and bring out a "new" car to play with, it's going to have to be something cheap that no one else wants. It's hard to justify doing a restoration at any level due to the high cost of the parts and materials vs. buying a done car cheap, if you can borrow money & are in a postion to take on a payment, which I'm not.

Times are a changin', and not for the better:ball:

Like Dave said, Once they're gone, they're gone!
