Very good, Dano.....I was confident someone here on V8 BUICK would be interested in it. After all, the "price" was certainly right! John

Well, apparently the guy decided to give it to someone else. Didn't say if it was someone from here or the aaca board but he did tell me on Sat. that someone else had contacted him & other than @Jolly-John I think I was the 1st from here to contact him. Said he'd let me know if the guy can't get it picked up. Bummed but holding out hope that it still happens - I'm the eternal optimist:).

More or less same thing happened on my free Hot Tub I got on Craigslist and I wound up with it so... 1st in line even showed up but still couldn't get it. I showed up - Just me, my beater car, my little utility trailer (same car/trailer I'm taking to the Nationals), and a (good) plan and I left w/it. When I got there she said "where's your help," lol. Was right after Covid got serious so didn't interact much but eventually they became curious & we got to talking. She said when I pulled in she thought there was no way I leaving w/it. I'd been hunting the right "free" one and damn if it didn't work perfectly once I got the pad poured, electric run, etc. Set it in place by myself too. Was kinda like dealing with a car body:).

Right after that, I scored a free truck camper but I was 1st to call on that one. Had been looking for one of them too to take on car related trips & one short enough to pull a car trailer behind & this was perfect (s 9', shortest one w/a full wet bath). Was listed for $500 (still a deal). Guy calls me right back & said he'd just listed it ½ hour before and really didn't want anything for it - Just come get it:). Could do w/o the "P" but even that and the Stripe the guy painted on it matched my truck and it was vintage - 2 years older than the truck. Hopefully will have it at the Nationals next year w/the Stage 1 in tow. 7.3 IDI will be a slow go over the mountains (hills to you guys out west).

So maybe the Skylark will be the 3rd free charm. Will update if it happens!

This day and time you most likely got knocked out of place by someone offering money for the free car;can't tell you have many times I've had a car "bought" and before I get there seller backs out because someone else offered more money.

I thought about that and did offer him $ for it. I was trying to even figure out how to get over there before the Nationals but couldn't w/o cutting the trip short. Hopefully the other guy won't get it picked up.

Well, that's a shame, Dano. The guy's "To Give Away" posting had been on the AACA site about eight hours, when I first saw it. I figured someone would enjoy getting this car, and that the gang here on the V8 BUICK site was more likely to take action on a car like this, compared to the usually older crowd over on the AACA site.

You're right....I called the owner of the car to check if it was O.K. with him, if I cross-posted his ad. He said, "fine". Up to that point, no one else had contacted him about the free Skylark. I hung up, and immediately did my post here. So, your call to the owner likely came in within three to five minutes of me having talked to him.

The guy certainly seemed like a straight shooter on the phone. But, perhaps someone offered to come get the car "right now", compared to your timing of doing the pick-up after the Nationals. You know, the owner's (or his wife's) nagging thought of , "what if this Dan guy winds up not coming?". Or, possibly he had also posted his giveaway on Facebook Marketplace, or Craigslist.

I just checked the owner's original posting on the AACA forum, and it's all crickets there. No indication that someone on there got the car. As you say, it's good to think positive....perhaps you'll wind up with the car in the end. And, if not, it's not like you lost any money in the deal, only the potential opportunity to do something with the car. But, I guess that would still feel like a "loss", in its own way. Thanks for keeping us posted. John

That's usually the way I look at it too, unless someone was literally on the way to get it. I know it takes a certain time and transportation commitment to be able to pick up something like a car.

Yeah, selling or otherwise. Too many people who claim they're gonna get something and suddenly its crickets.

My friend Jenna also contacted him and was ready to show up with a trailer, but he said he had someone else that planned to get it... if Jenna ends up getting it then I know for a fact she would pass it on to you Dano. I will keep you posted.
