this new torque converter(flashes to 3700) and engine combo is great but i now have traction issues. when i do get traction i've had from a 1.59 to 1.61 60ft, sometimes it spins the tires right from the start and sometimes it goes out a couple feet and then spins. when i jack the front up i have 4 5/8 rise before the tires come off the ground. suspension is stock front shocks(i'm looking into front drag shocks)stock front springs, air bags and rear adjustable dragshocks boxed lowers and all new bushings(rubber) . i've tried softening the rear shocks, that worked for the first two runs today but then i brought the timing up to 34 degrees and it just kills the tires(275/50 15 MT drag radials). iv'e tried 12,15 & 18 psi in the right air bag withou much help. i've also varied the pressure in the left air bag from 3,6&9 psi without much help either. 18psi in the tires. let me know if you need more info. need some input for things to try to make this thing hook consistant. thanks, dave

hi dave, what worked good for me is;get some adjustable upper control arms for the rear.try to adjust pinion angle to 2-3 degrees downword.since you have airbags, you need to stepup the air pressure alot.i ran 25# in left,40-50 in the left.i scaled my car once with lo to high air pressures, you really get alot of plant when you raise the pressures.the more air-the more weight on the rear tires.i went as low as 1.44-1.46 60 fts.i also only ran cheap gabriel red ryder shocks! good luck, dan

One thing that helped me immensely was different front coil springs. The stock springs don't give that much front end lift. I also switched to Comp. Engineering three way adj. shocks. I set them to 90/10. The front end comes right up and it goes down slowly. My driveability isn't really affected too much. If you're in to high speed cornering don't do then. But for drag racing and a traction improvement it would definately help you. John Biggs.

have you tried to switch to a honda that should fix your traction problems. Just kidding. I assume that your signature is all new specs. I was curious what your 60ft was before and what converter you had and what was your old ET.

thanks for the info, i'll give more pressure in the air bags a shot and see what happens. if that doesn't work it will be front springs and drag shocks. hopefully i can get the car on some scales and see whats going on with it. old 60ft was 1.75, et-12.52 old converter was a cheap 12" from TSI. it was a good converter just not optimized for the combo. new converter is from Edge racing converters 9 1/2 inch custom built. only cost $450 and was the best upgrade i did over the winter.

Do you drive this on the street too? I am considering which converter to get and I can't decide between 3000 and 3500 stall. How does this one do for you?

As far as traction, I won't know how our combo does until later this summer. I bought the adjustable drag shocks from Summit, and setting on 90/10. Removed the front sway bar, Battery to trunk, rear air bags, 12.5x30 M/T pros, 3:42 posi, stock type shocks in rear, and a rear sway bar. I'll be watching this thread to see what works for you.

yes i drive it on the street,p/s,p/b. its a weekend toy. i drive it to the track air down the drag radials and go. the converter is a little loose on the highway, if i'm cruising @3000rpm 67mph and accelerate lightly its ok but if i give it some throttle it will flash right up. at first i wasn't happy but i'm ok with it now. the first launch with the new combo was a 1.59 60ft i don't want to change the converter at all. through the traps its @5300 is 8.78%slip but that should get better as i get the car tuned and the mph to come up. best mph so far 109.82. this thing(when it hooks)60fts as good as my friends car that runs in the mid to low 11s. note: after reading my last reply it could read like the converter was responsible for all the improvement, i did install new rings & bearings, raised the compression by .5 and ported the heads over the winter, and changed the cam. i will say most of my improvement so far has been the first half of the track.

weighed the car last night. car w/o driver 3630,w/driver 3935. i need to loose some weight. looking at the weights on all four corners i think i have found the problem. the way i had it was 913 on the left rear and 801 on the right. after playing with air bag pressures and tire pressures i was able to move 52lbs to the right side. so now i have 860 left and 853 right. it took 40lbs in the right bag and no air in the left. anyone have any suggestions on moving weight around for more efficiency or better traction ? thanks, dave

final readings w/driver and 1/2 tank fuel

    ...................Left............Right...

    Front..........1164............1055
    Rear.............860..............853

Although I have a ladder bar suspension which makes this info not pertain to my set up, I think it's very interesting...so I'm here to just tag a long.
I like the idea you scaled your car. I did when I had my car back halved and it helped alot in making changes...gives you a reference number to go off of, sorta like a jet change. But Dave, you seem pretty smart with this so I' sure you know that.

Dan, back half car?:bglasses: Will it be ready this summer?
I should be at KK a lot more this summer...so hope to see you there!

I'm tagging too. I plan on running a similar setup with the springs & bags.

to those tagging along just remember that every combo is different(learned that form a couple hours searching this board). this car hooked 99% of the time with the old combo. small changes in the combo added together make a huge difference in the way the car reacts. i'm not that smart i just spent a lot of time researching what worked for others. i also have a good friend(jkaz0442, thanks for the scales) and we work together on our cars. hopefully next weekend we will see what happens with traction.

I can solve your problem, just trade me that big V8 monster for my 225 V6 and you will not have that traction problem anymore!

so far not so good, still same traction issues and now the new stage 1 fuel pump is shot. car leaned out just after half track, had to lift and still ran a 12.4@99mph. new moroso springs and some drag shocks coming soon.

When you ran 1.75 60ft and 12.52 et, what was your MPH?
Also, What was the stall of the old converter?

Im looking into the efficiency of the Edge converters. So far they're looking real good.

Softer front springs will definately help your traction.

mph was in the 106.xx range.the old converter was rated @2800 but it never flashed that high, maybe low to mid 2000rpm range. i just installed moroso springs and some drag shocks in the front and a new robmc fuel pump will go in tommorow night. can't wait for good weather.:3gears:

My car has STOCK ORIGNAL SPRINGS that I bought the car with. All I have is Lakewood shocks,Hotchkins rear control arms,(stock pinion angel) Wolf upper rear end bushings, & a anti roll bar. I am on a 28x9 M/T slick with 13lbs of air.
The car 60 foots 1.44 -1.46 off the foot brake.
Before the anti-rollbar, I used to run a Hotchkis rear sway bar and a right rear air bag with 20 lbs in it. 60ft.1.50-1.51
These are the bushings from WOLF PERFORMANCE I am talking about.[IMG]

You could also buy Edelbrocks upper control arms. You get the built-in bushings & adj. control arm all in one.
    The right P/N is 5249.[IMG]

I also run polyurthane bushings the rear-end. You should also get the frame brace that ties the upper & lower control arms together.

If you start to make big power & going fast with air bags w/ high pressure 20 -40 psi, you could have your hands full when you go to STOP the car !!! it can pull hard!!!! You have a fully extended front suspension and the you get on the brakes HARD!!! The uneven rear suspension could take you for a ride...

When I was running just a right rear air bag it didnt effect the stopping of my car. The anti-roll bar isnt very street friendy.
This is the DICK MILLER P/N for the anti roll bar.
    DMR-5413-T = $318.00 [IMG]

Universal fit Anti-Roll Bar. Some fabricating and Tig welding required. Helps eliminate unwanted body roll for better traction. Used in conjunction with a DMR bolt on full rear suspension kit 60' times as quick as 1.24 have been recorded on low 8 second ET cars. Cars with full exhaust and/or factory gas tanks see DMR-5413-T. A must for cars exceeding 550 HP.

well it looked good for the first 3 runs, 1.66,1.64,1.64 60foots w/ 2 to 3 inches of air under the left front tire. i had my friend video the 4th run because i wanted to see the air under the tire.(my first time pulling the wheels off the ground) of course it was not to be. tire spin again.:af: but i think the video showed me my problem. the burnout shows only one tire(right rear)spinning. i think my posi may be on the way out, or maybe i can get lucky with a 300 pound posi spring. till next time, dave
