In order to get that nice GM power brake pedal, you have to have at least 12-14 inches of vacuum at the power booster. If you have a performance cam, the vacuum may be low

You guys are funny! Yeah, I detailed the snot out of it. Even wiped down the chassis and undercarriage with mineral spirits. I went full on OCD with it. It's pretty good now.

Ok....not too bad for an amateur-

Someone in the cars past decided the factory did a piss poor job masking the backside of the headlight bezels. Thry painted the backside in this thick black paint, but only the part you can see when the hood is open!

So I thought I'd tackle that issue. Here's what we're working with-

And what remains of the factory overspray

    20220613_205513.jpg 20220613_205515.jpg

So I carefully and tediously sanded only the area thst was painted black making sure to not sand any original painted area. After it was all sanded down to the original chrome plating, I masked it and put up a snow fence with the tape to smoothly transition to the original paint .

I sprayed the area with Sem trim black. After that dried I misted it with my Saturn yellow. I tried mimicking the factory overspray the best I could. Here's the finished product-

Great detail and technique. During factory assembly at what point did the bezels get chromed vs painted? Did the chromed bezels get painted over?

That is a good question. I'd have to consult my parts book, but I believe there were 2 different numbers for a GS bezel and a GSX bezel. One came black only on the areas that were supposed to be body color and the other was all black. There was chrome underneath though.

The bezels on the X are chrome under the yellow.

I have seen such a range of black vs “color” on those from original cars that it’s not funny.

They range from almost all black to almost all “colored”.

I would guess it depends on how they were painted on any given day.

I tried putting the same amount of overspray on them that the factory applied. The color isnt an exact match though but close enough

And the drivers side completed. Its easy doing sloppy work!

Max Damage I'm working on it!

Your going to have to do that over again with better matching overspray. LOL.

    Jason,
I can’t see what the top of the grill looks like. Is it beveled at the top and is it with or without the center gusset???

……and sorry if I have asked this before.

And here is something that probably a little over the top since only I will know ita correct...

They repro a "square mesh" AC air filter. Very nice part. When our cars were new, the filters had square mesh as opposed to the expended metal, diamond pattern thst is currently available.

It makes more of a difference on cars thst came equipped with factory open element air cleaners.

    Jason,
Quick question, is that a Factory replacement grill? It looks like a gray plastic grill, or did you paint the back?

    Just asking.
