got the trans pak in my th350, everything seems to work great, but whats wrong is the 1-2 shift is kinda soft, no more chirps, neck snapping shifts, and i can figure it out. any ideas, let me know

I'm sure your going to get all kind of answers but the only way to really tell is to pull the pan off and re-read the instructions and re-trace your steps. Really no need to not re-use the new fluid you put in it (you did add new fluid didn't you) and save yourself some money. Good luck

yes i used new fluid, and thats what i have started doing is stripping it back down and checking things out. maybe i should have an answer soon.

If you don't find any issues with the uninstall, unfortunately another possibility is that the trans was already worn to the point that the kit accelerated the clutch pack slippage. Although by design the apply pressure is increased, the harder hitting shifts can often put a worn out trans over the edge.

trans looks good, had a torn gasket on the plate. trans was rebuilt last year using the good stuff. fluid looks real clean. hopefully when i get back and put some more fluid in it, works as advertized

You did drill out the passages on the plate, right?

the instructions on the kit said for street use, do not drill, for heavy duty,, drill it out. maybe thats the problem, u think i should drill that hole out in the plate anyways.

Drill it! You'll like it. I drilled mine, and I still think it's too soft.:beer

see, thats what im looking for is that neck snapping shift. my car always had that with a stock trans, now with the trans pak, you can feel more power but its shifts are sloppy now. i will drain it, take everything back apart and drill the plate, hopefully that will bring it back to life.

i would say its the plate from the detent cable
or something is loose or improperly installed
last resort pull the spring out the passanger side of case
it will stiffen shift some but not much
i acutally put mine back in since my shifts are too fast and hard it didnt chirp tires you just heard sandpaper rub noise and a thud from my rear end bushings being pounded out

well, i think the increased pressure might have smoke my clutch pak, considering the smoke coming out of the fill tube, and the fluid looking like fire engine red metallic paint. think i will do that th400 swap now. lol.

If you see metal in the ATF, stick a fork in it, it's done.

changed filter and fluid, no more metal. wondering if when it was rebuilt if they didn't get it cleaned all the way out, and now the increased pressures knocked it lose and cleaned it out. going for a road test this afternoon.

after a certified transmission pressure and flow test, looks like it was just bad timing and the front pump is actually causing the trouble, so it was just a draw of bad luck. thanks for the help and info though

no the weak shifts turn into slipping and the the engine reving out and then the metallic looking fluid coming back after the 3 fluid change, then the rattling from the front of the trans. the front pump grenaded, just bad timing with the transpak install i guess. had it looked at there is no pressure in the 2000+rpm range.

Metal in the fluid is usually the convertor coming apart. Put a magnet to it and see if it picks-up the metal. If not its aluminum (and the convertor has aluminum in it). The transmission doesn't really have any aluminum in it but the case is aluminum and if the pump comes apart and damages the case then you could see aluminum. Either way, check the convertor when its out to check for damage.

this is weird, but how true could this be

with the recent metal found in my transmission and after all the ideas on the topic, here is what i have found. i pulled the trans to check the convertor out to see if it was coming apart. what i did find was alot of metal in the fluid dripping out of the tailshaft housing. apparently the driveshaft yoke was bottomed out and when i was hitting bumps in the road, it was chewing out the back of the shaft and all the good stuff in the case back there. so i pulled the front pump out and took everything out, and there was a crack where in the back of the casing where it looked like it was pushing everything forward by 1/8 of an inch. i know that there was a big strike in 70, do you guys think that maybe the wrong length driveshaft was installed from the get go. would else could have caused this problem. any ideas or guess would be good.

Could your rear suspension bushings be completely shot? maybe incorrect length lower suspension arms. swapped with a diffrent car.

if someone here can give you a drive shaft length it could help too from U joint to U joint.
