p Can you remember? I sure can. It was at Bunker Hill Dragstrip in 1966 in my,slightly modifiedo No: , 1960 Corvette running H Stock,I think, car was a 292 CI 270 Horse, 4 speed with 4:88 gears, 12:97, Man was I happy! And yes I did drive it on the street,I usually put the 4:11 pig back in after racing but sometimes I left the 4:88s in for some serious street racing:eek2: I can still remember being able to take off in any gear and how cool that was. Having a all black, 4 speed, dual quad Vet in those days was the ultimate, of course Buick hadn't really got into the game yet:Brow: I know I'm telling my age but there really was some Good Old Days!!! Jake
I'll NEVER forget mine... I felt like I was going 200 M.P.H.!!! I was a few MPH off but nonetheless I was still pleased with my 1st 12 second pass...
When I put the motor in my '70 Skylark in '95 I just wanted a 12 second street car. I remember after my first 12.99 et I was trying to figure out what I needed to go 12.50 before I got the car parked! It eventually went 12.5's with some tuning and a new carb but that didn't last for long either. The car is going back together now looking for low 11's to high 10's and somewhat streetable. This is a disease. Ken
For me it was 1989 and the car was my 70 Skylark convertible (Stage 1 powered). Eventually got it down to 12.67@108. It was then that I lost my mind and started thinking about building a racecar. Originally planned on street/strip for the '65. Yeah, Right! You see how that wound up! Oh the humanity :ball: The money! The time! ou: Oh Yeah...The WHEELIES!!:TU:
12 Second pass - Still waiting for my first. I'm stubborn enough to want it on street tires though - my car has gone almost 104 mph so I know it's got the power. Traction limits me to 13.20's with a 2.00 sixty. I predict that one cool test-n-tune Wednesday this fall, when there are enough "really fast" cars at the track and they actually spray it with compound, I'll have that timeslip. And I WILL celebrate.
Well, I'm hopeing to do it in this, as soon as I work some of the bugs out....I know its not a buick , but its still fun! :TU: Here is the prob I have: oil constantly gets sucked up into the PCV valve in the upper RPM ranges and burns through the engine (like after 3 pulls it looses about 2 Qts.) its not burining when ideling, and driving normally, just when I get on it :Brow: ...is there any way to fix this o No: . Oh BTW its a 1970 350 Chevy LT1 Vette motor, 750 speed demon, 12:1 comp, 30 over, wicked cam, 3,000 stall convert, 4:11 posi rear, roll cage, etc... Please help
I do I remember my car was a little loose on the take off and was skatin. I remember It was such an awesome feeling and I stayed in the throttle hard till the end. I couldn't believe how my GS pulled all the way till the traps. Yeah that was great, then I was hooked....For LIFE!:bglasses:
Oh wow... <misty eyed> Mine would have been around 1985.... 1955 Chevy Wagon... 4.56 gears, T-10 4 speed, and a screaming small block Chevy I built (my first build) with Dad's careful supervision. Man was that thing a hard pulling bundle of fun! It's the same car that's getting a 455 Buick stuck in it for its rebirth :Brow:
It was in 1989. I had a 1979 olds cutlass,it had a 370hp 455 from a 1970 98. W-30 cam, headers, torker intake, 4.10 gears and holley 830 carb. 12.97 @ 104 street tires and mufflers.
I remember mine. It was at Norwalk last year. I drove the car there, took off the a/c belt and went driving. Best pass of the day was a 12.94 at 104 mph. I was happy......for about a day or so. Now I'm looking to sneak into the 11's. My new torque converter should be here this weekend. Hopefully I'll get to try it out in the next week or two before Flint. Hmmmm, anyone know of a 10 second convertible?????? Just kidding......maybe
Yup There's one down here in TX. I believe the owner's name is Charlie Newman. He took it to the Nats last year, pulled it off the trailer and won Bracket 1. No time trials. I talked to him about it later, amazed, and he simply said "I know what the car will run..." Wow!
wasnt in a buick and along time ago in 1974 my brother and i bought a 1969 chevelle copo 427/425. it was sitting in a garage next to a yenko 427 camaro. the owner had completely disassembled both cars (both were 4 spds, silver chevelle, yellow camaro) to make them into a "drag team". then he completely wrecked his back at work and was laid up and running out of money. wouldnt sell the camaro so we paid 1800.00 for that chevelle, and took it home in boxes. reassembled it with a balance and some blueprint work and my first pass at national trails raceway, near columbus ohio, netted a 12.08. my brother (50 lbs lighter than me) eventually coaxed an 11.70 out of that thing, driven to the track and then 9x29.5 M&H slicks were bolted on. ruined the muncie 4 spped and broke a bunch of 12 bolt axles and a couple of ring and pinion sets over the next few years. sold it in 1985 for 10k, to a broker who turned it for 35k in the next few years of ever excalating prices. who knew, in the gas crunch of 1974, it would ever be so valuable?? sure was fun, though.
12 SEC. PASS My first 12 sec. pass was at Buick Norwalk event in 2000. I installed a new engine built by Gary Paine & broke it in on the way to the track, about 1.5 hrs. for me. With about 90 miles on the new engine it ripped 12.42 @ 108. I thought i was flying! By the end of the event i was at 12.30 @ 109. Had a great time & drove home! Now 10.90 isn't fast enough! Go Figure! Randy
hmmm....can't really remember the time, date or where but I remember which car! It was the one that I have now I think I ran 13's the first year I got the car and 12's the next 3-4 years.....I can tell you EVERYTHING about my first 11 second pass though This year.....Norwalk
12 seconds It was 1969 at thompson dragstrip, just got done putting in the over the counter stage 2 package,in my new 69 GS 400 4 speed car, first pass a tire spinning 13.30,borrowed a set of 'ol M&H racemaster slicks(recaps by the way) 7" wide hard as rocks by todays standards.Clicked off a 12.89,I thought I was flyin and in heaven. Amazing how 35 years later and only 3 seconds quicker seems like an eternity. gary:grin:
