Mine was in 1987 with my GSX. 12.99 with stock intake, carb, open stock manifolds. It was at night on a hand written business card style time card (remember those?). I was all excited! I ran out and lost the race but I didn't care one bit!

    69GS400s ...my own amusement ride!

1993 - 15.8.....bought the 69 GS400 conv - stock, 2.93 open rear (BTW, thats the exact same speed for a similarly equipped 1969 Magazine test article)

    1995 - 14.8 .......'455 S1 .030 over went in, 400 put to rest
    1996 - 13.8 posi, headers/dual 2.5" exhaust, fresh TH400
    1997 - 13.08 tuning....etc (Almost there !!!)
    - spun a cam bearing.....car down.....time to restore body and build new motor

1999 - Fresh paint, fresh motor .040 over, Rick M's old race heads, TA413 cam, 1.6 RR's, TH400 with lower gearset

Out of the shop 2 weeks, dating a new girl (now my wife:Brow: ) she wants to go for a cruise out east with the top down(Hmmm....track is out east - think I'll slip my helmet in the trunk before i pick her up)

End up passing the track around 3:30p and she says i"Is that a race track ?? " Hmmm....I dont know lets go see

2 hours later I get to make my one pass on street radials....

12.82 @ 107 :bglasses: I was PUMPED ...First time I actually raced and felt like the car was an animal.....pulling hard through the traps

....and I told tech "I dont know....last time i ran it she went 14.7's"

....I was asked never to return

....Girlfriend wanted to know why I went so slow compared to the Mustang in the far lane - he ran 9.40

Stuck in the 12's since - but for a car i put a few thousand miles on a year...Im happy

Mine was in the early 90's and was in my friend, Brian Liggett's car. It was a '72 Skylark cloned to a GS455. He had a nice 455 in but it did not last long due in part to our stupidity. So he had bought a '69 430 with 40 something thousand miles on it but it had good heads on it. We took the KB107 cam, ta SP1 intake, headers, 850 Holley, and a locally built 10" convertor and went out to play. It had 3.90 gears and 28 or 29X9 slicks, and a true 9.6 compression. That car shocked me to say the least. Always in the 12.20s with a best of 12.17 and he drove it to work for a long time. An older guy that we were friends with had a Callaway Corvette(twin turbo SBC,6 spd). He always called Buick motors garbage truck motors. Well, in a street race one day(yes, day) the "garbage truck motor" spanked the high $$$ Vette.

It was 1996 when I did 12.85 in my 72 GSX flame orange show car but Gary Paine who did the motor talked me into racing it at Thompsons well I was turning 13.10,s and 20,s all day then I got to the semi finals, and I see this hairy ass super bee pull up to the line Dual Quads open headers sounded bad, Im thinking here is my first loss he is gonna kick my a--, my car has a stock block 455 1970 motor with just headers and a b4b and a 118 cam, 12 bolt 373 gear, OH and stage one heads full 3" exhaust, well guess what I blew his doors off from start to finish by 5 car lengths but I turned a 12.85 I broke out, Man did it feel good and my wife has it all on tape, now I am working on a 72 all black stage 2 clone Gary will hopefully get his hands in that one too,
    GOING FAST WITH CLASS. :3gears:

    NJBuickRacer I'd rather be racing...

I got my first 12.99 in March '02, on stock tires with 2.73 rear gears with a 1.94 60-foot in the vette. By September it was 12.20@112.22 with a 1.70 60' after 3.42s and a 2400 stall pro-torque converter. I swapped gears/tc to a 3.73/3800 stall 3.0 STR and finally got 1.5 60-foots and a best ET of 11.63@115. Now I want to do headers and run 11.4X, but working on the GS has kinda distracted me. Now I want a low-12 second nailhead:grin: Guess it's better that way, I was thinking about a mid-season cam swap and going for 10.80s....it never ends:spank: I will be campaigning both cars in points this year at Englishtown. I finished 8th in points last year, and want a top 5 this year in the vette class and top 5 in the GS in real street. I will not have time to do anything except race this year...oh well:grin:

Hey Doug was that the first time we met when I ran you in your Skylark...oh I mean beat you with my GS:grin: at Atco. I guess that was the last time I was faster than you. Then you got all crazy building the '65.

Anyway checked my records back in '84 ran 13.15 at 107 and in 1985 hit the 12's but have no shots:ball: The shot below was in 1988 at the GS Nats ran 11 passes on the juice w/o it was in the 11.80's with it 10.91 at 123+ mph. Went down to the last 3 cars (this was prior to Q-16 days) It was Rob Chilenski that put me on the trailer. That year also was using a shoe lace to activate the nitrous, that's an entirely other crazy story. Later that year hit the 11.50's and 10.70's with the squeeze, and yes it was still a bonified street car! Fall of '89 took her off the road for good, caught that same sickness that Doug caught...need for speed! And now I yearn for those good old fun street days. For you street guys enjoy it!...Oh and yes it's the same car I own today
    -Rick Martinez

shot below is leaving on the footbrake, mashing the peddle and hitting the juice off the line together and ran in the full quarter, she would leave like a Mopar...What a rush!

I remember years ago,I ran 12.96 @108.79 with my 87 GN.Since then,I've added a TA 49 turbo and I know the car is faster now than before. As a lot of you know,I'm mostly into the car show scene and didn't really get heavily involved with racing my car.Once I saw that the car was capable of running 12's,I was happy with the numbers and don't really feel like getting the car to go faster.I figure to have a show car/street car running 12's is fast enough. What is amazing is the fact that my car can get 30 mpg with the A/C on and can still produce those timeslips.

My stock 2000 Z-28 with auto trans and stock tires would run high 13.20's. So I disconected the exhaust and removed the hood for the ram air effect and ran back to back 12.99's, again on the stock tires. I was happy that I dipped into the twelves with no permanent modifications.

As a disclaimer, my `66 GS (430) had potential, it would do 13.6 without tuning and without traction. But I sold it before I had a chance to tweak it.

Yup! Almost like yesterday.... Yet oh so long ago sometimes! I had just finished an EXTENSIVE rebuild following every little detail that I could think of or read about. This first run was NOT done at full throttle, although I kind of question that myself, especially by looking at the first 1/8th mile. I think that it might have been very close, but I was a little leary of RPM's, and I KNOW I didn't take it over 5,000 in any gear!
I waited to post until I could dig up the time slip. I can't get a focused pic.:error:
