At some point I need to install the front and rear windshield and back glass. I have issues with the mounting area and need a bunch of advice... paint and body work were done before I bought the car....and I have seen some videos of urethane (I think) with foam damn and then with butyl tape.

    1) if anyone has some close up pics of their trim and windshield that will help as not sure if the body work caused the shape of the windshield opening to be an issue and want tonmake sure the trim will fit well.
    2) my "lip" on the top front has had "work" done... it seems in some spots it's 3/4 " wide and others 5/8. I probably need to Dremel the lip consistently an even size so A - you can't see it and B- if you will see it looks good. C- About how big should it be?
    3) The retainer/trim clip studs seem to have been filled in and around them making it impossible to attach a clip....car never had a vynil top but must have had an issue there.. Should I Dremel around them to make them work or put in new screws that they make to replace the studs?
    4) I see there are 2 different type clips for both the front and rear glass. A- where do the red vs steel ones go on the front and B- where to the steel and the black ones go on the rear?
    5) I think the correct way to install glass is a urethane and foam damn (vs the butyl tape). It's not a show car so A- what is really better or acceptable and B- where do you buy the urethane and foam damn if I go that route? (Don't know the exact name or where to find it).

    Thanks for your help!

I asked a bunch of questions on glass, clips, adhesive and such when I went to install. All this for a 70 GS.

I only used the butyl ribbon tape. No urethane. Just ran the tape around and pressed glass in. Of course this was a fresh restoration so all the channels were clean.

Looks like red on top and silver down sides for windshield.

And then silver across top and red on sides for back window.

I’ll look to see if I have some close up pics of my install. Hope some of this helps you out.

My glass guy uses 5/16 butyl tape and then smears urethane on the outside edge of the glass and tape to seal it off. If he only uses butyl, it will leak… from my own experience.
