Well I picked up a 72 buick gs. It was a 350 swapped up to a 455 and the 455 bottom end has now moved on and isnt salavagable. Ill get some pics up of the car has a gsx paint job and hood.

Heres where you hate me. I am poor at the momment but I want this car to run again and I do have a Chevy 454 that I would like to put in UNTIL I can build up a 455. Im not trying to ruin a buick but with the season soon coming to an end I dont see a built 455 being done by then with the budget and I want this thing to run. Can anyone give me any links or advise on putting the chevy in. I know you all hate the idea but I want to see the car run before the snow comes and this is the only way. Someone please help me with out hating on me too bad. Know this wont be perminat but just because I have a 454 and need it to run. Thanks for the help

    First, welcome to the board!

Second, PLEASE don't put a Cheby motor in the car unless you absolutely have to. Best bet is to find a decent running Lesabre, Electra, or Riviera and steal the motor out of it until you get your other one rebuilt.

Let's see some pics of the car. It sounds a lot like my old '72. It's not Stratomist Blue is it?

:blast: Cheby Anyhow I've never comitted the sacrilige you speak of but, I'm thinking your gonna have problems with your trans. I don't think the Cheby will bolt up to that trans. :Do No:

Where are you located? I bet BBB guys local to you will help you all they can to get a good running BBB in there. Also, a good running BBC is probably worth more than a good running BBB. Where are ya' located? Ya' put in a BBC, it might never come out because it will end up being easier to install another BBC later on.

Im in South NJ. As far as a big block buick would go I havent been able to find parts to build nice 455. I have stage 2 head for the 455 but I would need a built bottom because I would like to run a big shot of juice on it and I havent been able to find parts

If you try to install a BBC instead of a BBB then you should get ready to change/alter quite a few things, including and not limited to,
    front exhaust pipes
    frame pads
    motor mounts
    engine wiring harness
and possibly cutting a new driveshaft. (different lengths for different motors)

You also may need to do something with the clutch fan or fan shroud, as I don't know if the chevy motor will change the placement of the fan in relation to the core support/fan shroud.

It may be a lot cheaper/easier to either wait, or sell the 454 and use the money to replace the 455.

PS. I own Big Block Buicks, Chevelles & 442's so this is an un-biased post of some of the "differences" you can expect to find along the way.

Ok if I am to keep a 455. What can I do to build the bottom. I have found forged pistons on summit but I have not found any rods. My goal is go mid to low 10s on the juics. Im not some young tool saying that. My last awd 4cyl went 11.7 at 127 so I am going to top that time with this car if Im gonna be racing it. So what can I do to the bottom to take a huge shot. Knowing my goal what can you guys recommend I do with a 455 bottom to ge there. Thanks

I have 3 455's in my garage, all unassembled. But NJ is not too close to CA. Someone help this guy get hooked up with a BBB. Cash out on that BBC, off roaders and truck owners need a good running BBC like you need a good running BBB.

I also forgot to add that the bellhousings are different between Chevies and BOP transmissions, so you better add a trans to your list.

I can't help you with how to beef-up the bottom end, but I am sure others will chime in to help.

    Welcome to the board.

You may want to post this in the Street/Strip section of the forum, but I know alot of guys install a block girdle, so maybe that's a good place to start on the bottom end?

I know alot of guys install a block girdle

ouch. i can't see a guy going to college who can't come up with enough scratch to get his BBB together shelling out for a girdle and the machine work that's going to be required for that.

    http://www.taperformance.com/block.htm

aside from a good align bore, grooved bearings and balance job i'm not sure what would be in your price range.

I want to see the car run before the snow comes and this is the only way.

so you want this done with the next month or two? dude, about the only way that's going to get accomplished is if you have a running engine to hand.

are you going to be happy with the results or all the work necessary to do this half-way?

if you've given up on the 'gotta have it this year' thing, TA Performance is the major buick supplier and there should be several good Buick shops up in the NE there.

You need 68-72 Chevelle engine frame mounts, a short tail Chev turbo350 trans(if you have a BOP 350 trans currently in car)minor engine wire harness adaptations, 68-72 Chevelle 396/454 exhaust pipes and front engine accessory brackets. Or is it easier to find another Buick engine?????? Henry

dude check out moleary in the parts 4 sale thread under three buick engins for sale. in know moneys tight but with all the extras you'll spend trying to make a 454 fit, you'd be better off selling it and picking up a 455 and do right the first time .moleary is selling one complete motor for $550.00 good luck & welcome aboard
