You never know. Did you ever read this story about how I found the original "born with" wheels to my car that were taken off in 1975? http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?297909-Lost-and-found-set-of-WG-s-another-good-story!&highlight=wheels
Missed one if Jason's posts? As an act of contrition you'll need to pray 10 David Dunbars and perform six lubes! Brett, very tasty, we'll all look forward to hearing more from you. Congrats!
Welcome back, and congratulations. Your comeback is bigger than when Aerosmith came back from the ashes in the 80's.Lol
Very Nice Brett, Welcome back. Since it's not a numbers resto deal, I might suggest the first upgrade as power front disc brakes. I recall driving those 4 wheel non power drum cars.. scary after a few hard stops. My 68 was a non power drum car, and just sliding in a power booster was a huge upgrade. Now if I could just keep the big alum front drums from warping.. JW
Welcome back Brett! First thing I noticed was the clear top overflow with flat lens. Build date confirms this....cool!
Brett was a pleasure to deal with and also made this super-easy. I not only made a new friend in the Buick world in the process, but know it's going to a good home which was important - It was great to see how excited he was about it. It's an awesome, super clean car that as Brett noted was unknown in the Buick community - Had lived it's whole life in the same small town and only racked up 49k mi. By far the nicest original GS I'd ever owned and I'm very sad to see it go. I had only bought it a few months ago from a non-Buick guy (actually more of a Mopar guy) and had no intention whatsoever of selling it as it was my "I'm back" car (although not with quite the announcement Brett made. The only reason I sold it was to make room in the garage, or more accurately in my wallet, for a different '70 Stage 1 4-sp. that will be ocupying that space - It's a car that is nearly a twin (only diferences being the top & interior colors & no consolette) to the one I sold about 15 years ago. Announcement on that car forthcoming although a few here already know about it (shhh...). If I could have have kept the black one and bought this new one I would have, but financially it would have been too irresponsible. Thanks to Chris (CPJ69), who I also became friends with through this whole transition back after a long absence from the Buick world, for putting this deal together. Believe me, I pounced on this car when it first came up for sale (was only on CL for a few days) as we know Chris sniffs out every Buick on the market, and in the case of this deal with Brett, Chris put together a deal on a car that wasn't even on the market. As sad as I am to see the car go, I'm looking forward to seeing what Brett does with it!
Good eye - you're correct. This is one of the few that came with clear overflow/plastic rad. top & flat lenses. Assuming the invoice date is the date it rolled off the line, 1/6/70 is the day the transition from pointed to flat lenses was made, at least @ Flint. There is another member here with a car with the same invoice date, but an earlier serial number and it has pointed lenses.
Thanks Jim! Yes - Dan, my friend and I had that discussion in depth yesterday. I can't even begin to imagine what it must have been like to try and stop that thing at the end of a 1/4 mile! Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
I'm definitely going with the "unsuspecting look" of the dog dishes. My good friend and life long Chevy guy raved about every aspect of the car on the flight home. In fact, he told me if I didn't buy it, it would probably be the dumbest move I never made. Ha!! Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
Unknowingly to me, Brett had already ordered this from Mike - Do you think Brett pretty much knew he was going to buy it before he (and his friend Brian) came down to actually see it yesterday? Really, it was one of those few and far between cars that you don't have to look very hard @ to just know... Other than one kid that owned the car for a year back around 1980, & who traded it to the guy I bought it from for a '66 mustang after his dad said "that car HAS to go," I don't think the car was ever really abused nor do I think it was ever a daily driver and probably hardly ever saw rain, let alone snow. Of course it has it's issues, but what 50 y/o car doesn't, all of which were disclosed to Brett and he said even then it exceeded his expectations. I wanted him to see it before buying it, but would have felt pretty confident loading it on Sean's trailer & sending it up there sight unseen. Definitely a tough one to let go and every time I had resolved that I was doing the right thing Brett & I would start talking about it again or he would ask me for a picture or to check this or that and I'd have to wrestle with it all over again - I told him he'd better stop asking.
Had I bought this sight unseen, I would have been just as stoked as I was seeing it in person. However, Brian was very adamant about making the trip down there for a closer inspection and test drive. Especially after a friend of his got screwed and had to hire counsel to get his money back on a sight unseen car. What a 6 month mess that turned out to be. Plus, the hour flight made the decision that much easier and it was cool to meet a like-minded Buick guy.
