whatever happened to the thing about no retractions within the last 12 hours of an auction ?

i've never retracted a bid, but its my understanding that at one time it was not physically possible to retract a bid within 12 hours of the end of an auction. did ebay change this recently ? or ?

its very hard to keep up with all the changes of ebay. not even ebay employees know all the rules.

I don't like the looks of this auction, either with the second place bidder or the revoked bid. Doesn't make sense that the second place bidder (now high bidder) would bid an amount 10 cents under the reserve with over 2 hours left in the auction. Like my high school geometry teacher used to say: "There is something fishy in Denmark."

    Bid Retracting

When your bid was placed What is allowed What is not allowed
More than 12 hours before the listing ends You can retract the bid with more than 12 hours left before the listing ends. When you do this, all your previous other bids will also be eliminated. So be sure to bid again if you are correcting a bidding error that you made. You cannot retract the bid during the last 12 hours of the listing, UNLESS THE SELLER AGREES

Please contact the seller to request that your bid be canceled. However, it is up to the seller's discretion whether or not to cancel your bid.

Maybe did the deal off ebay to keep from paying all the fees. Not such a bad idea if you're talking that kind of money..

korrie i assume you looked at the bid history. the bid was retracted within one hour of sale end. it was not cancelled by the seller.

are you saying a bidder can make a late retraction, but only if the seller allows it ? i'm not talking about a cancellation, i mean a retraction by the bidder. if this is the rule, it would be a new one on me, which of course may be the case. rules change, i dont know it all.

You can only retract in last 12 hours if seller agrees.

    ebay states the following

You cannot retract the bid during the last 12 hours of the listing, unless the seller agrees.

Please contact the seller to request that your bid be canceled. However, it is up to the seller's discretion whether or not to cancel your bid.

korrie thanks for posting the link. that is exactly what it says. i do think ebay could've added a couple more words there to make it more clear. i believe this is a change from the way the rules were before.

its now obvious to me that it is physically possible to retract within the last 12 hours, after all, we just saw it happen.

there is more i'd like to know, but wont ask.

    Trucks455,
As to the original statement I made. THERE WAS NOTHING DEROGATORY MEANT TOWARD YOU, NOR YOUR CAR.
The TRUE Value of it is what someone is WILLING to PAY, to THAT person. Should you tell a "Buyer" you want less? NO WAY.
    THEY SET THE FIGURE.
The comment was IN NO WAY meant to insult you or ANYONE,
It was MY PERSONAL OPINION, NOT ANYTHING ELSE!
Is it INTERESTING, YES! Would it increase Value,to others, Possibly. COULD it Drive other prices higher, MAYBE!
A GOOD deal is when BOTH Parties are Happy!
The Deal on the Nash Bridges Cuda Made Both Parties Happy as well as the B/J Auction! BUT Was THAT car worth the money on the open Market? I'll Take the 5th!

Why do you guys keep talking about pulling a listing and selling it outside of ebay to save fees?

As far as I know, unless something has changed, the fees for selling a VEHICLE on ebay are not that large, and are not based on the final value like they are for other items. I think total fees are less than $100.

Here is what ebay's website says under fees:

eBay Motors does not charge a Final Value Fee at the close of Vehicle listings.

That leaves an insertion fee of $40 and a transaction fee of $40. I am sure someone would not be selling a car outside of ebay for $175k to avoid these fees!

When you retract a bid you only get a couple of choices for reasons you did it, you don't get to type in the real reason. One of the others is "couldn't contact seller" and I can't remember what the third one is. Just because he picked this reason doesn't mean there is any truth in it, just that ebay makes him pick one of the three.
