I think that quote is about the slicks race............

But I know how they changed the FAST rules at E-town......they made you forfeit your car to a guy who does not like Vettes or Chevy's

Donny It is a good thing you brought up the rule issues .I for one would not want to drive 12 hours to find I could not race.Or worse yet be called a cheater.I race in fast but I am sure you saved more than one person from having problems. It does not seem like many people know about the differences including some of the people beating up on you.

Unfortunately, many people on this board know of some or all of the differences.

The majority of us lobbied Gonzo through this board to eliminate the differences and adopt long standing working rules and even pointed out how established cars were not legal at his event. My two were among those not legal from time to time as the "rules soup" boiled down.

The problem is it fell on deaf ears.

As far as Donny goes his initial question of:

"From what I hear, some of the FAST cars from the e-town event may be coming to Martin, long with friends who have built cars for the Factory Stock race at E-town.

whose rulebook will be used ??"

:Dou: What the heck question is that? Whose rule book will be used?

Donny was told the P/S rules were adopted at Martin and Simpson is the tech guy. You or anyone else should have been pointed in that direction.

Quite frankly I'm suprised Donny didn't know that with his "involvement" in the whole thing.

    Political Heat

Donny the political heat has become to much for me and my stress levels are rising so unfortunately at this time I must render my resignation as President of your fan club effective immediately. Sorry Donny but I need to be President for someone who never gets beat on...

Anyone accepting applications for a Fan Club President that will immediately run like a French soldier upon any confrontation?

Back to the subject at hand. Let's look at three examples. One is my RA IV Judge which has lots of room to move up in compression by PS/FS rules but would be illegal at Gonzo's race as I have 12.13 to 1 compression. Additionally in that air I may have hit 11's with a mild amount of luck. This would render my car twice illegal as a Factory Stock car. So instead I do not even bother to bring it.

Second example take a 455 SD for instance. If you stuff it full of compression at 12.00 to 1 then pull a touch of duration out but add lift in it meets the rules at Gonzo's race. It no longer is remotely like the original and passes the idle and vacuum tests even easier than a stocker would. The issue is the fully built up certifiable motor Paul Aragona runs would be 100 hp down to the new SD ideal and idle worse to boot. That seems a bit foolish for Paul to bother showing up.

Third take a '65 389 tripower. Throw a set of no. 16 D port heads on it and stick with the stock 068 cam... With the liberal head rules you could easily add 40+ hp with the '68 no. 16 heads. A guy shows up with a nice '65 and is killed by a guy with big valve D ports that may be the best Pontiac ever made. By 1968 the Tripower heads were essentially the 400 small valve two barrel heads. Again that car has nothing to do with a legit '65 built by Pontiac.

Dan and Bob made the PS rules so that people could find the TRUE pecking order of all the fabulous cars form the Musclecar era. Gonzo's rules only have a pecking order defind by who can create the best assembly of parts that idles nicely.

I wish I could race at Gonzo's race as I find him to be a great person in the dealings we have had with each other. But several of my Pontiacs would not pass muster at E-town yet they are far more original (each is strictly built to certify) than the cars that will pass. Go figure.

I appologize for any beating given to Gonzo in my post but rather this was simply an illustration of why I do not and likely will not attend (w/o rule changes). Even worse for me is my new Pontiac hopefully will be even faster than the Judge which would make it even more rediculous for me to travel half a day each way.

Back to Donny's regularly scheduled beatings... :spank: :Dou:

Now I'll shut off the computer and wait about ten minutes till I can walk away! :eek2:

I would avoid prepaying for that event in the future Don. That tells me alot about the guy who runs that race..

I will still go to both of the events my car is legal for both races in the Michigan and in NJ when I can.I guess if people try to build an engine to the limits with one set of rules it doesn't fit well with the other .Not every body has their car restored as absolute pure stock some have a bit more cam some have slightly bigger carbs. Some people bought their car the way they are and don't really know what they have .Their car may fit a Gonzo set of rules better and not have to tear apart chase hard to find parts and spend a bunch of money to make changes .I just hope that more people find a place to enjoy their cars and fellow racers. Yes it would be nice if everybody could race their car anywhere and be legal ,the people that max their cars out for one set of rules exclude themselves from the other group of racers. But if your car is very close to actual pure stock it fits everywhere with no problems and can be tweaked to run very well.

My '58, Pauls '57, Franks '57, the '57 Bird all can't run at E-town because of the 1960-1974 rule.

The P/S rules have been 1955 to 1974 for a decade.

I guess Gonzo was just making it easier for more people to participate. :Dou:

To say nothing of the "Model A-palooza" from Stanton a few years back.

Hmmmm....A-palooza.....kind of has a nice ring to it. Good name for a horse breed.
