I may be all wet, but...

I think there's a higher concentration of cars in the MI/OH/IN area which lends itself to the turnout of the Stanton and even the Martin events...taking the event to the cars betters your odds. Granted, both of the Michigan events have definitely paid their dues which helps. But, events in other parts of the country don't draw as well, even the events a little farther south in Ohio struggled and thus are no more. It seems the majority of the folks in the proximity of the Stanton/Martin events won't travel and there isn't the concentration of cars in other parts of the country to support another event. It's slim pickins here in northern Arkansas/southern Missouri, but after traveling 800 miles each way since '99, it seems you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a decent musclecar in the MI/IN/OH area.

I'm as guilty as anyone about not supporting events here in the Midwest, as I've had to bail on Squeeze's event the past 2 years...but if you guys put something together, I'll do my best to help. Also, it seems most Pure Stock guys I've talked to would just as soon try and piss up a rope as share the track with another event (F.A.S.T. excluded)...

Again, just my 2 cents, and if ya don't like it, ya know where I live!

Also may want to consider Cordova, just north of Davenport-Moline area.
AMC club has their National show there. Bob

I would be very interested in an event in the midwest. If your serious about this I can spread the word in my area. There is alot of muscle cars within a 50 mile radious from me.

I'm with Rusty on this, and Rob makes some good points too. There are literally hundreds if not an easy thousand Pure Stock candidates in the Greater Toronto Area. With the exception of Bruno & Company, to a man they think we're crazy racing our precious jewels at the track. We're talkin' about folks who'd rather compare feather dusters than timeslips! Until that attitude changes, you have to take the race to the racers. It's not about the concentration of cars alone; it's also about where the guys are that'll race 'em!:3gears:

I consider this group to be for the most part, the 'Core Group' of racers in Pure Stock and F.A.S.T. There are some extreme die hards in this group. I feel that to be able to put on another race, we would have to have 30-40 people say without a doubt in there mind that they would come. Most everyone has family obigations and limited budgets in which they can play. I am a prime example of this. I fully intended on going to both Martin and Stanton last year, but after the expense of the Martin race was exposed, I was told only one race in Michigan a year. That being said, I am going to be at Stanton this year. I am also going to one to two more Big events this year. Point I am trying to make is that when you get enough events (I know I could make an event every weekend if I had the money and time) you are going to be limited on the number of the 'Core Group' to make it.

I know that media exposure in the past couple of years has been great, but look at the numbers. How many thousands of readers in Muscle Car Review/ Musclecar Enthusiast and how many club members of all the different marques and we only had 136 cars show to the 'Biggest' event of our brand of racing. In short, if you want to race, get your cookie money together and plan on a trip. The mountain won't move unless there are enough people to move the mountain!:Smarty:

True, there are alot of muscle cars in the radius, but how many have pulled to NE, Topeka, or KC to run their cars? There are a lot of cars out there, but how many have the stones to go out and bang some gears!:spank:

And even more critical, how many of them would be legal for Pure Stock? Seems to me that if people drive 'em then they at least have headers on them, but if they're wearing manifolds then they're deligated to show poodle duty...

I bought my car to drive and have fun with not to have it sit in my garage just to look at.Banging gears not a problem there.

Don't forget a double Metamucil on the rocks.

Frank, us old guys need to stick together. Stop it!

I love 3 on the tree. I wouldn't let my brother Rick convert his 3 on the tree 66 Cutlass HT to a floor shift.

Actually, I'm just jealous that I can't afford an automatic trans in any of my cars. The fact that they weren't available on them is also a factor.

click.....oooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....click...............ooooooooooo!!!!!!! What a concept! click, click, click (oops, missed that one) ..........

Obviously, Dave has not spent much time with a Hurst dual-gate shifter. :moonu: You do indeed BANG the gear-shift. You just don't have to wiggle your left toe like you stick-shift guys do. If it makes you feel any better, Dave, I'll wiggle my left toe from now on.

For the most part, the Hurst dual-gate shifter makes shifting a breeze, with the rachet mechanism ensuring there's no danger of hitting the wrong gear. Unfortunately, this assumes the operator is smart enough to actually place the lever into the correct (right-most) gate. I've heard of amateur drivers placing the lever in the left gate, then finding themselves hitting Reverse when they bang the 1-2 shift. :eek2: I personally would never make such a mistake. Nope. Ut-uh. Wasn't me....... :puzzled:

Yeah, but you only have to do it twice. :beer

Yeah and that moved up the food chain of technology to the "Lightning Rods!"
I liked the Dual gates on the cars I had, but I always felt so unclean with no clutch pedal..........

Actually, I do have a reverse pattern, manual shift T400 in my other 68 with a Hurst Quarter Stick....that's right! More technology......and it all started with a click.

Hell, you can imitate the Peter Klute "Stomp the Cockroach" on every upshift as long as you loss the headers and come out and play..........

Depends on how many times I miss second, first run against you I shifted six times for all three gears.:Dou:

Should I sit sideways like some of you guys do?

Who is it, (Stefina?) that always looks like he's ready to bail out the driver's door ass-first at the 1/8? Maybe the angle makes it at least feel like you're going as fast as the automatics. :Do No:

Nah, just keep sitting in that lawn chair while we race :moonu:

Sorry, we have insufficient data to determine if you are correct that your automatic is faster than our 4 speeds. Please show up at a convenient event and prove yourself.
