    I would have read this, but I have to go take my fiber pills and get my nap done. My nurse said I'm getting too excited.:laugh:

    Donny Brass, just happened to stumble on this site, actually I've been on V8 Buick forever but not on Pure Stock before. What caught my eye was your 66 L-79 Vette. I bought a 66 L-79 3.73 4speed new in Jan. 66. It was not a Corvette but I beat several with it including a good friend that had the identical drive train but in a Vette instead of a Nova. I always wanted to build a Nova to run Pure Stock but sold the last one I had before I ever got it to the track. I always thought it would be a good car for Pure Stock since it does not have killer low in torque and should help with traction. I ran the one I bought new when it had 780 miles on it for the first time and it went 13.10 in Pure Stock trim except for tires, as I did have a good set of slicks on it. I eventually got the car to 12.70s and had much fun beating the typical big block muscle cars of the day. I love what you'll are doing. If I was not so heavy into this Nostalgia Super Stock racing I would join you.
    Thanks;
    Jim N.

    Jim, thanks for the encouraging words..... 13.10 is an big number stock, even with a set of slicks.

    I am just hoping to see 13.40s some day soon. I guess you are saying it should be possible.

    We were just talking last month about that fact that we have not had a L-79 shoebox come out yet.... I want one bad, but so far, the Bowtie fairy hs not rought me one.

    Thanks for the reply Donny. Yea, I had an real l-79 car again I was restoring in the mid 90s and sold it after I could not find a true Chevy II block. I had planned to run it stock. If you remember, Jenkins was flying with a stocker in 66. They have the ability to be fast but it will take some work. Your Corvette is carrying more weight and the rear diff setup might rob some hp too. I know you are having a good time. I sure loved the way the little engine wanted to rev and run. I would always race any one because it was not a big deal if they beat me because I was running a 100 inches less. But, I never lost many.

  6. Is there a requirement to be pre-registered for the Stanton race?

    I'll be week-to-week by 9/14 because our new baby could arrive by then, and I can't lay down any solid plans. I improved a bit at the SuperCar Reunion race event, and would like to keep it going!!

    Donny, how's the L79 Vette coming along. What are you running. I been racing a Nostalgia Super Stock Buick for the last 6 years and I'm getting a little restless. If I could find the right car, I might just come run with you guys. I truly believe I can run in the 11s with a L79 Nova. I'm not sure how much money it will take to do it, but it is possible. I guess the big money now is finding a nice car to start. I saw a really nice original one in southern KY at a car show a month ago, but the guy would not consider pricing it. Well the pipe dream continues. Good luck with the Vette.

    I'm surprised there aren't any 66-67 Nova SS L79's in Pure Stock. Those things were screamers right from the factory.

    Yes I was lucky enough to have bought one new in Jan. 66. Ordered it just like I wanted and it was fast. Actually I don't even like to talk about it much anymore as people think it is just "an old fools stories" but they used to bring cars from 50 miles around to try to beat me, most were a 100 cubic inches larger and had lots more magazine hipe. If I give up this Buick stuff and could fine the right car, I would be there in a heart beat, but everyone would think I was cheating.

    the L-79 has mostly been running back and forth to the machine shop :Dou:

    I am making one more effort to get the car back together for Stanton.
