Because no one has ever needed 24volts on a job done properly........

Gary, you asked for input in your first post on this subject. That's what you're getting. It makes no sense to sugar coat it.

Fact is, it soulds like one or more things are potentially wrong with the assembly.

We were only trying to help you out with our combined knowledge. I have hired at least 20 - 25 damn good Gas and Diesel mechanics in my career, if one during interview would have told me they had to use 24 V to start a 12 V after build they would not have made the cut, and are probably still slingin burgers at MC-Ds. Hey nothing wrong with flipping burgers, I love all you burger flippers. Try to keep her under 3 grand, and run a good heavy weight oil.

Dragging starter was my first thought.

Are you sure? My "heavy duty" battery charger has a 24V position on the switch.

two 12 volt batterys in series would be 24 volts
two 12 volt batterys in parallel would be more amperage

Why not? I know its not the best way but when I had to do a quick fix on the nailhead the cam was in the block when I honed. I just made sure I was clean, no problems so far (knocking on wood) haha.

Didn't have time to read all post. But if who ever reringed it and used the old pistons and did NOT clean the piston ring grooves before installing the new rings, this can cause this and it will only get worse when the engine is warm. I run 13 to 1 Buicks all the time and start with one 800 CCA battery. If all is right, 24 volts not needed.
