    Important installation tip.................

After cleaning the original label and glue off of the backing plate, do NOT install the new face plate until AFTER you re-install the controls in the dash. I made the mistake of gluing on the plate first and during the installation of the controls I slipped and scraped up the upper right corner of the new plate. I will now be buying another one to replace my mistake. I thought I could get it in with no troubles but its a tight fit in there so I goofed.

Anway, here is what my mangled one looks like after the installation........

Do you have only 2 screws that hold the unit to the cluster ? If I do well remember you don't have to unplug the unit in order to do the faceplate replacement , right ?

There are only two studs that hold the unit in.
Mine was already out due to a lot of work that needed to be done under the dash.
I think it would be quite difficult to clean the original labeing and glue off with the unit still in the dash, but I didnt do it that way so I may be wrong.

Ok , I don't mean to keep in the dash , I mean I all removed the dash cluster / dash pad last year and replace the whole control unit . But for the faceplate does the control has to be off the car (cable remove) ? But that's not a big deal once I'll have it in hand I figure it out better !

Im sure its much easier out of the car, or you could just lower the controls and unclip the faceplate from the controls to remove the original labels. :)

Hi Troy , I just receive my faceplate this morning , it look very great !

But I have a concern about the "agrement" we had when I send you the control unit :

    - I pay the shipping to send my non a/c unit to help you with the mesurement etc ..

    - I buy you a faceplate , and you were suposed to pay the shipping on the way back for unit with the faceplate in same box

    What happened is :

    - I pay 14,68 cn$ to send you the unit via Canada Post

    - I bought you a faceplate and I pay via "PAYPAL" for 48 cn$

    - I have 62,45 cn$ bill to pay for the shipping to the brown guy (UPS)

    For a grand total of : 125,13 cn$

My girlfriend was at home to receive it , and she was ... she was ... let say upset

    Hope we could clarify this

    Donald

Im confused, I paid for UPS to ship to you from here, just as we agreed, I dont understand why you would need to pay for further shipping?

To the others waiting for faceplates they arent done yet, the shop promised me this week, (even though they said that last week).

It looks like "the brown" did something wrong again! Could it be brockerage fees? I've been charged excessive brockerage fees more than a few times by UPS!

    The customer copy says :

    Import charge : 62.45 $ (That's what I've paid for this morning)

What I don't understand is since Capt dunzell said he have allready pay for the shipping why should I have to pay again ? I mean that cost me only 14$ (w/100$ insurance) to send it to Wa .... As far as I know Capt. dunzell don't pay a penny at the reception :Do No:

I have no hard feeling about Troy , he have done quite a good job having them reproduced , but I didn't expect to pay an additional 62,45$ at the reception , if so I would have think twice before sending the unit , and only buy the faceplate once they're done .

For sure the first and last time brown park is truck on my driveway :af:

UPS and Fedex are absolutely the worst choices for shipping across the Canada/US border. Always use the USPS from the U.S. side, unless you really really need to be able to track shipment. You guys should have communicated on carriers to use ahead of time. It does sound like UPS is sticking it to you Donald. Even at my work, we basically refuse to ship UPS into Canada, unless forced by a customer willing to pay what they know will be exorbitant crossing fees. There's no doubt Troy paid UPS to ship, otherwise it would not have been taken by UPS in the first place. But he has no way of knowing what they will do on Donald's end of things when they deliver. Donald, remember the U.S. parcel post package I sent you a couple months ago? Even for that they dinged you additional customs fees/duties upon delivery to you. I had no way of knowing about that when I shipped, but from I understand, it's commonly known in Canada that shipments from the U.S. carry a costly fee burden upon delivery. Not a fair deal to our Canadian friends, but there's not much of anything we can do about it on our end, except to use the less expensive carriers.

    You're right David !

Last november I bought a hood spear from The Dr Buick (Joe) , I ask him a price that include the shipping , he send it via USPS and I had no charge at delivery , nada !

I had to pay some 40$ from FEDEX last year when buying from another board member from near San-Fran,Ca ... I received the bill about 2 months later !!!

I apologize to Capt Dunzell if I hurt him , I wouldn't give him a bad name not at all . Capt was correct and like you said it would not be taken by UPS in first place . Keep doing your great job Capt Dunzell :TU: but maybe choose another transport than UPS if it goes across the border .

Looks like I've been charged like a 1000$+ value for duty according to their chart :Do No: I'll give 'em a phone call this week to konow a little more about that

I paid 17.38 for shipping, packing, and insurance fees.

When I recieved the package from you Donald they didnt charge me anything further.

I feel terrible, I had no idea they would try to charge you again for something I already paid for.

I wont used UPS for anything again. :af:

I got a call from the shop today, they said that they are ready. I will pick them up in the morning, and I hope to get out of work early tomorrow and I will try and get them shipped as well.

Hi Capt , what kind/make of glue have you used ?

  18. Capt_Dunzell

    Donald,
I used Elmers Spray Adhesive, it dries clear and makes an even coat, i thought that using a spray type adhesive would let the light show through more evenly then spreading another type of glue on it. It holds it really well, but if you ever wanted to change the label it could be removed without damage to the original backing.

Im really sorry about the UPS issue, I had no idea they would do that.

Thank you , I'm gonna watch for this .

It's ok , that was the first time I've been "browned" ... next time that I'll buy something from the other side of the border I'm gonna ask the seller first . And no more U pee S for me :(

Sometimes you have to pay the price to learn :Smarty:

For all those that ordered faceplates, they have been shipped today, and not through UPS.
