Thank you Philip and Mike for the info !
Philip, since it is a Framingham-car, have you found the 1/3- buildsheet they usually had ? I used to have a 1971 Le Mans built at that plant and it had that type of buildsheet.

I looked all over the car for a build sheet but didn't have any luck. I've never found one in any of the 20-something GS's I've had. That is until I dropped the original gas tank on my 70 GS 455. I was so excited to see that piece of stiff, wrinkled, brown stained paper! Then I looked at it...and found that it was for a nicely equipped Canada bound SportWagon with a seven digits earlier VIN number!

Talk about going from excited to disappointed~~~

I have a question about the D57 Consolette and D56 Short Non-Shift Floor Console. Brett has a D57 Consolette in his car but not the D56 Short Console I assume, since it´s not on the cheap-sheet . In this Stage 1 of mine there is a D56 Short Console but no D57 Consolette. Now since the floor is so rusty behind the firewall, there is no way to tell if it ever had a Consolette or not. Someone could have removed it during the years under the tree. Now to the question. Could you order the 1970 GS with a D56 Short Console but without the D57 Consolette ? Is it likely that the car was ordered that way ?

First, check for the 3 holes for the consolette... yes, you could order the short console without the consolette...

If you can, take some pictures of the floor around the 4 speed hump (if you still have any of that area).

This is what it looked like. You can see some of it in the lower right.

It sure has, but also a clutch pedal ! Or are you referring to the aluminum front drums without powerassist ? :)

    Yes, I know it´s rusty !
When I looked for a buildsheet inside the car before, I also removed most of the sheetmetal in the trunk looking for a tanksticker. It was not so hard. Since the gastank was hanging in the right strap I did not remove that part. I thought that a buildsheet could not hide in such a small area. Today I decided to take the gastank down and see what I found !

Looks like a Flint "Production Order Body Final"

You just need to check the vin or body number against the car.

    Now to some serious questions:

Is the date 02 20 the day it was actually built at the Flint plant, or the day it was planned to be built ?

I have put two question marks on the sheet, one under the S under wire harness, and one under the H under brake. That is because those letters are hard to read. So what would that S and that H mean ?

Under electrical options there is a T for clock, but I can not find a clock in the instrument cluster. So what does that T mean ?

And now to my old question about the console again. Would "console type 1" be the short console without a consolette ?

The last one for now: I have the original engineblock with S S and 292 stamped into it. But is there anything on this buildsheet that confirms the Stage 1 engineoption and fourspeed trans ?

I'm jealous! My search was fruitless.

I've seen somewhere on line that there's a way to clean up build sheets like that to make them legible.

Duane, with the cheap-sheet in mind that was the first thing I did.

Duane, can I order a decoding of this "Production Order Body Final" from you ?
If so, then you can send it to me together with your book.

That's great you found the build sheet but there's nothing left of the underside of the car I hope you're good with sheet-metal or know someone good luck with your project happy holidays.

"Is the date 02 20 the day it was actually built at the Flint plant, or the day it was planned to be built ?"
Neither, it is the date the paperwork was generated.

"I have put two question marks on the sheet, one under the S under wire harness, and one under the H under brake. That is because those letters are hard to read. So what would that S and that H mean ?

They are manufacturing codes and took me years to figure out. I will not discuss what they are on the boards, but I will give you the info when I decode the sheet.

"The last one for now: I have the original engine block with SS and 292 stamped into it. But is there anything on this build sheet that confirms the Stage 1 engine option and four speed trans ?"
Yes and Yes, and again I will give you the info when I decode the sheet.

    Yes and Yes,
I charge $20.00 to decode the POBF sheets, and you get back a nice "representative" copy of the sheet, and on the backside is a sheet that decodes everything.

You are going to have to look at the sheet very closely under the "brake" space. You might have to angled the sheet to the light etc. to see it better and try to see what it is.
