I believe we are up to $2250, I'll just have to see what has gone outside of cyberspace, and entered my three dimensional mailbox.. Hey, that's a pretty good start on a nice car, or it would cover the whole cost for an ok car to start with. Thank you all so much! I really appreciate it.

I think we're there but depends on the car. Doesn't seem like there are any good centurian converts out ther at under $3K. On the other hand, there may be other options. Like the wagon for $2K. He's got the 455 motor and TH400 trans to put into it.

But that's just supposition. Kimson needs to figure out what he wants to do on his own. We're just here pushing buttons, saying what we'd like to do. Maybe that will influence him, maybe not. It's all up to him.

I watched that Wagon before and now it is on again. It looks clean, good year. And it is close to Los Angeles (Bloomington, CA).

i know i really never have much to contribute but in my local autotrader(i live in southeast ohio) there has been an ad for two(2) 71 riviera boattails for the same price. if they are still there they are about 35 miles away from me. might check autotrader.com and search for lancaster ohio.

p.s. as a fan of the mid-seventies collonade cars, I am truly sorry for your loss.

I've been in contact with the guy who owns the red Centurion in San Diego, I'll make my way down there on Saturday to take a look at it.

So Saturday came and I thought I'd do a "double dragon" as we like to call it when you manage to do two of something, just like the old arcade game was called. On my way down to San Diego I stopped and looked at this 73Riv for $1250 or something like that. It was a mess, and I don't think I want to buy a car that is driven around with two out of five lug nuts screwed on. I passed on this one.

Then we reached San Diego and made our way the red centurion. The owner had just painted the engine, taken the timing cover off to fix a leak, and had just put everything back together this morning. I knew there might be some issues so I brought my tools just in case. The guy couldn't get it started, good thing I brought my timing light, he had put the distributer in 180 degrees off. We got it running, and set the timing. There was some knocking sound, sounded like it came from low down, clank clank clank, not very loud, but there; like each turn of the crank, something hit something. The owner explained that the car hadn't done that before he removed the timing cover, but how was I to really know? I'm not sure what it was, he seemed a bit fed up since he had been working on it all morning, and not been able to start it. The car had been painted a while back and had some minor scratches, small dings, but nothing major. i think it would have looked great after a wash and a buff. The chrome was all nice. The under side had some white powder on it, probably desert dust, a good clean would have been nice to perform. The interior was shot, except for the door panels, but all weatherstripping was completely ruined. The seats needed to be done, not like two years from now, but more like within the next week. No headliner, carpet was shot, dash was cracked, and the dash bezels needed to be replaced. The main bad part about the outside was some rust in front of the rear wheels, patch panel needed, gone through on one side, the other side had some bondo. This was a good project car, that looked real good on the outside, but when you start to add it up, it goes up quickly. The sticker said Sep. 2005 on them, add some cash for the back registration. Had the car had a better interior, and the engine hadn't had that knock, I would have bought it.

How much did he want for the Centurion?

The "knock" could've been the oil pump NOT being primed - was the oil light on? I only suspect that, because the timing cover was off the motor, and could've lost prime.

I also just started a new job, something I have been chasing for a year finally happened. I got a job at Primedia, the company that publishes all car magazines you can think of. I had applied for several different positions there, and by chance kind of, I happened to be at the right place at the right time. I just completed my first week at the marketing department doing graphic design. This is a normal hours five days a week deal, so I don't have the time I used to have to work on any car. I didn't want to say anything until I had made it through the first week. When I saw the red Centurion I felt like I just couldn't do it, re-doing everything I had done and then lost. It wasn't my time to buy another car, I need to focus on my new job for a while. I will be able to raise some more money, and then come in and buy something in a little better shape. I'm trying to figure out a garage spot for it too, since my local stars hit the green car four times while it was parked, and then finally burned it to the ground. That will also take more money, $85 :( a month is the best I have found so far. I'll be back, probably sooner than I should.

You are probably right on the money there, I asked if he had put oil in it, and he said yes, but I still thought it sounded like it didn't get any oil. I never thought of the priming issue  dumbo me... I didn't see any oil light coming on. I remeber asking if he had an oil pressure gauge, and he said: no.
