Well poop, I’m going to have to have the intake side of my manifold cut so it sits down and the bolt holes line up, oooor try the thinner TA composite gaskets, IIRC, these are .060 or thereabouts
Mark, Are you using RTV instead of the valley rail gaskets? If you have to mill the intake sides, I'd skim the heads instead of the intake. That way the intake will fit any motor. Maybe elongate the intake bolt holes up a little?
Haven’t used the rubber end rail gaskets in years, RTV for me there My heads are already torqued. My last build I had the intake side of the heads cut.
Yes he did, I remember him mentioning that. Buy my intake lined up fine before, and these heads had .040 cut off, so that’s my issue, I don’t honestly know why or when I ordered these thick composite gaskets, I discovered them and thought “ hey I can use these” HAHA, NOT
Actually I think I would machine the intake? It doesn't seem like it will hurt it(the intake), even it ended back up on a standard height head in future? Warning! This is just my speculation.
Just did a test fit with no gasket, lines up great, so it looks like I’m needing the thin TA composite gasket (.015)
I used the .015 gasket I just put it on this past week. I also used some bolts and cut off the heads so I could put in pin holes and I could guide the intake to the correct spot on the engine. I get the intake started on the pins and then I can lower right down to the engine straight, worked like a champ, next day I pulled the pins back out. I used the copper spray on the gaskets so I could stick it to the engine then drop that intake on it. My bolts just make it, I actually had to open the holes slightly on the intake so I could get the bolts in. I checked the bolts going in before any gasket went on.
It’s Krylon Gloss Red Pepper. I DID find a can of Chevy orange in the garage, I said “WTF is this doing in my garage??” I had Pam kick my ass!
You should go to Michael's and get 5 gal of race gas since you have that comp up fairly high I do 5 gal with each fill up, did it that way ever since build.
Why don't you just use a factory intake gasket? That's all I've ever used on my 350's and never had an issue. I never measured one, but they have to be way under .060.
Funny you mention that, I tried calling TA today, 19 times, they must be closed for the holiday? So I was thinking, the stock bathtub gasket has always worked well for me also, I just may order it from Rock Auto
