    87stage1 The Sure Shot

I watched the M*ch*g*n-USC game the other night. I guess finally I won't have to listen to anymore $#@! about why M*ch*g*n should be in the National Championship game instead of USC or Florida. Good.

Yes, it's true there should be a playoff. I will go a step further and say that if the Big 12, SEC, ACC, etc. has a Conference Championship game, then every BCS Conference should also. Big 10, I'm looking at you. Every few years in the Big 10 two teams split the Conference Title. Why? Because, for instance, in 2002 the Buckeyes and the Hawkeyes did not play each other. That craps gotta go. Notre Dame: quit actin like you're too good for us and get your overrated asses into the Big 10 which will give it 12 teams which could be split up into two regions. Take the Conference Champ from every conference and put them into a playoff. Give everybody else their regular bowls so all the schools get all their money. (Come on people, there is like 100 bowl games and although I love football, a 6-6 record should not be rewarded, Minnesota, you're not fooling anybody; you suck for sure). Why doesn't Boise State deserve to be in the Championship Game? Does anybody ever tell schools like Gonzaga, or George Mason over on the basketball side of the house that they are too small? NO, because they are given a chance to show how good they really are. Why is it that every freakin level of football from pee-wees to pros has a playoff except 1A college? Money. That's why. Division 2 can do it. Division 1AA can do it. Stop with the lies about missing school or whatever when every other sport plays like twice as many games than the football teams.

Now, I was at the M*ch*g*n-Ohio State game this year. I had season tickets. This damn game was not as close as the scoreboard read. Ok? The Buckeyes did not kick a game-winning field goal. What they did was kick the $#%* out of M*ch*g*n all night. The Buckeyes had the spread covered (the spread was like 7 or 8 points and they were ahead by 11) up until that final "lets look good/desperation" touchdown that M*ch*g*n scored with 2 minutes and 16 seconds to go in the game. Give M*ch*g*n 10 more points off of Buckeyes turnovers near their own Red Zone (yes I know, that's football, that's how games are won and lost) and suddenly the score is 42-21. So as you can see after it's partially broke down, the Wolverines easily should have been throttled. M*ch*g*n had 267 passing yards, 81 of which came from "2-minute drill" so that stat is inflated. I'm curious, what makes M*ch*g*n fans so sure they would have won on a different field? Let me guess, if you played USC on a different field, you would have won too, right?

And finally, what's all this talk about M*ch*g*n or USC being preseason #1? Now, I know this is not something new in college football. I also am aware that teams will be completely different sometimes when they take the field next year with so many people graduating and going pro. But, if you ask me, nobody has the right to be #1 until #1 is beaten! Texas should have held onto the #1 ranking for the beginning of this season. Once my beloved Buckeyes dethroned them in Texas, they should be #1 until they lose. I don't give a damn I guess if M*ch*g*n is #1 since we are garenteed to play them every season, but what about teams like USC? What if they were named preseason #1 and they went undefeated, plus the Buckeyes and some other team go undefeated? Then you would have another contraversy over who deserves a shot at the title.

My time is up, you guys have been great. :beer

    Osu,

    UM.........,
Evidently conventional wisdom was correct. Notre dame was in the Sugar bowl for the money, they sure as Hell weren't in the game. Not quite ready for prime time, or the big ten.

I don't actually like Notre Dame, but they are right in the heart of Big 10 country, the school is the right size, and they have been invited into the conference in the past. Their basketball team plays in the Big East Conference. I guess as long as NBC has a exclusive TV contract with the football team, they will stay independent because of the money. These guys suck, there's no question. They have no business being in the top 15 in the nation. Maybe not even the top 20. I think they've lost like 9 bowl games in a row? They played 4 ranked teams this year and they're record was 1-3. Their only win came against Penn State. In those other 3 games they lost against ranked opponents, the combined score was 132-59. That's an average of losing 44-20. Even the wins were pretty shaky at times. I'm not very impressed by a miraculous come from behind 40-37 victory against 4-8 Michigan State. Or a game-winning drive to beat 7-6 UCLA at home 20-17. Normally, I would say a win is a win, but I believe that only works if you win nearly every game no matter how pretty or ugly. In other words, I won't talk about the game M*ch*g*n played against Ball State this year or the Buckeyes game against Illinois because those two teams are contenders and do not have to prove they belong with the big dogs. They are the big dogs. The point here is that Notre Dame sucks and I got the numbers to prove it.

Why the hell did I go to the Air Force? I should have took a path that led me to work for ESPN. Oh well, I'll just be a Hydraulic Technician/Sports Anaylist :bglasses:

Don't knock it. I'd rather watch people getting "sacked" on Oxygen than in a bowl game. :Brow:

Speaking of Division 2 ..... Grand Valley State University, located in the state of MICHIGAN, has been national champion 4 of the past 5 years. They were 15-0 this year. I really don't understand why a playoff system wouldn't work for Division 1.

Wasn't Grand Valley State University originally named Grand Valley State Penitentiary? Amazing what you can do with a name change. Michigan State was originally called Michigan Agricultural College.

It was a state college up until about a decade ago. It's located in the sticks. Enrollment is over 23,000. Their entrance requirements aren't very strict, but I hadn't heard anything about majoring in Felony. :puzzled:

Mount Union Purple Raiders - Alliance, Ohio. 9-time Division 3 football champs: 1993,96,97,98,2000,01,02,05,06. 15 consecutive conference championships. 55 game winning streak is longest in NCAA history. (Oklahoma holds record for NCAA Division 1, which is 47 games from 1953-57. That's the only one anybody cares about it seems). They also had a 54 game winning streak from 1996-99. Once the streak was broken in the Championship game, they began the 55 game win streak from 2000-03. That would mean from 1996-2003 their record was 109-2! During that 55 game streak, they outscored opponents 2552-641. That's an average of winning every game 46-12! Their turnover ratio was +43. Currently, they have a 23 game winning streak. They have not lost a game since October 22, 2005. (21-14 vs. Ohio Northern). Their current head coach, Larry Kehres, has been there 21 seasons and his record at the school is 246-20-3 (.920 winning %).

There's been rumors for a few years that they could be going to division 2.

Quick: Name a major team sport, played in the US, where a team ends the season having not lost a game yet is not the champion?

    Hint: Ask Boise State...

Yeah, kinda....but name a sport where the national championship team plays everybody else in the country. Tilt.

Screw the national championship stuff unless you have some sort of playoff. But what would that be?

Maybe they ought to have a team like the globetrotters that goes around playing all the top ten teams and determine the national championship by that!

I think they should have at least shared it with Florida. Will be interesting to see where OSU, USC, Boise State, and Michigan end up in the AP and coaches rankings.

Congrats to the Gators, look out for Bama coming back in spades! :TU: :TU:

    Big 10...who?

    Final Rankings - click here

You ask what would a national championship playoff "be"? Nothing less than an 8 team playoff is what it *should* be...that way, your deserving mid major teams have a chance to get in, instead of just cherry picking from the schools based on hype or revenue base. I know, what a "far out" out concept, actually making the teams EARN their final ranking, rather than manipulate a computer or pull political strings...

    2 - 5 - 9 or 2 - 7 - 8 is not all bad for the Big Ten, really.
