Re: Oh...oh...oh... Gotta run that black tri power against the X here one day first. Gona be a hellava race.
Jim L. Awsome car and story, someday I'll get to restoring the 70 GS455 I rescued from the junkyard, I need a rear clip for it. I think BBQ Jim needs a certian 1968 Skylark I've got kicking around:grin:
Geeze.. thank God.. I have known about this deal since the day he found it.. And not saying anything, especially during that last GSX ebay deal, was killing me... Looks like a cool car... as good as he said it was.. needs a little this and that, but nothing major.. at least from this view.. Now all I want to know is when your gonna fly me down, for the tune up, and to let me "Test drive" it... :3gears:  I promise.. if I break it.. I'll fix it... JW
Rusty A fair question. My wife and I live in Needmore, NC which is so small you would not see it on a map. It is unincorporated and just a little crossroads. On a warm November day a close town just down the road, Fuquay-Varina, held the 1st Annual Fuquay- Varina Cruisers car show. We ferried three cars there--- two Buicks and an Olds. Only place close enough to do that. Well I met a man first who came up to me to talk about our Olds. He had a 67 W30 ram air tucked away just down the road. I knew of the car, but it had been sold some time ago and disappeared. I thought it was a good day just to hear of such a car.( Turns out he blew the engine and inside it sits.) Next a guy who I referred to this Board comes up with his wife because he did not know anybody had Buicks in the area. Turns out he and his family have kept some GS and Stage 1 cars in rural NC. They are starting to restore them. Again I thought what a day. Then up comes Brian who I had never seen nor met. He admires our Buicks and casually mentions he has one too that he has owned for 20+ years. Now Brian does not look old at 44 so I thought man you were young when you got it. So based on numbers made I am thinking Skylark probably . He then says GSX and I asked what year. He says 70. I then ask what color just as a little test and says same as your yellow convrt. Well now I am getting more and more focused. What equipment I ask? He says" 4 speed, stage 1, with power windows but no AC. " I said well I am not disputing your word, but if there were such a car around here I would likely know of it to which he says " I am not from around here, I moved to Lizard Lick within the last couple of years and the car has not been out." I got directions, to his house, went to Lizard Lick the next morning, saw the car, the POP, and the window sticker. On the spot I ( well my wife) made a deal to buy it from a wonderful person who has owned it and with some lulls has been restoring it all of his adult life. I will die with this car. But let's not rush it. (Quit drag racing in 69 at least on the strips) Excluding the protos, factory F/x cars, and over the counter stage 2 cars , to me it is the pinnacle production muscle car. Cannot be many left like it. I do however have to finish it. I will post some pics by the weekend to illustrate. Happy New Year to all the Buick colleagues on the Board!
Re: Geeze.. thank God.. I have not posted any recent pics yet that show off the car. Those are old paper photos I had to scan. Getting some historical ones from day one I hope. Henry has the parts in boxes at your place. We have the NOS parts already on a 49K mile GSX, stage 1. As for the flight down you need to be extremely thoughtful about what you invite. Has been in the 60s here and will hit 70s this weekend and 60s long range. I am not like some who just talk a mean game. You will be in the Bucy Memorial guest house before you know it. Thanks for all your gracious counsel about the car. Perhaps a paid combo vacation/ house call would be a slight pay back? Let the Buick doctor operate!
Jim, What a cool story! It's nice having an understanding better half, isn't it? What a keeper, both the wife and the car!
Oh, I know Jim... you do more than just talk a good Game.. Bucy has a really nice 70 in hibernation that you turned us onto. I'm game... just give me a little notice, so I can work the schedule properly. Got folks in line, that I must attend to diligently. Hence the fact that if you call the shop tomorrow, you will hear my voice on the other end of the phone. But everybody does have to take a vacation now and then.. JW
Brad Not many out there that can fly the planes drive the muscle cars in the sense of being interested in learning. (In addition to being so beautiful and thoughtful.) Even a blind hog finds a grain of corn now and then. I am the hog.
Re: pick me...ooh,ooh, ooh Jim These are manual shift cars not automatics. One is manual and tri carbed --very tempermental. Would take you take you a lot of prep time. Perhaps more than you want to spend. I suggest practicing on a his and hers shifter Olds for a while first. Then, we are going to give you a test on Buicklawyer's 66 black tri power ram air. I will ask him to tow it to JAX raceways on the 17th.
Guys what a bunch of BS. Dr. Doom is lovely, talented, flys a plane and felt sorry for him. She is also a nurse. Her maternal instincts took over and she married him so she could care for his hapless self. She will sell you any of his cars as soon as she can sedate him. The yellow conv is hers. A retaliatoy purchase I thinks she calls it.
Unnecessary, when you get this many miles on you, you self sedate with your own drool. ....Hold on, Hold, on I see her with a syringe heading this way!
