If nobody wanted to take on this task until now because there isn't a big enough market to recoup their investment cost, then how is this same market going to support 2 block manufacturers? Anyone?
I was reading about the father and sons race teams too. Which included a story of my good buddy Sam Davis and his ultra sweet mom!!!!:TU:
I can't wait to see where this thread goes!!!!!! I don't care what it costs I want one:TU: I guess it's time to start looking for a nice skylark to drop it in. When is that Newsletter due to hit my mailbox?
Chris, I hope to have them in a couple of days, the printer just finished them last night, and they have to be shipped here for distribution. I hope I will get them by Friday.. it will be Friday or Monday. You will get yours the day after I they get to me.. or you can stop over and pick it up. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Aluminum Block??... cool..:TU:
Wanna bet that all of a sudden there are going to be a lot of surplus iron blocks on the market--similar to what has happened with iron heads post aluminum intro! Now, if I could just get say 1000hp with pump gas and a cam that will let me keep AC........... well I would be satisfied. Now, I'll be lying in wait for one of those GN boys to come by looking for some action. Jim Lore
Hmmmmm...... 86 T-Type, TE44, DP, Injectors, Posi, and soon to have much more.........I'll be your huckleberry, Jim......>LOL>
I am wondering if this is a sister project to the iron block. If they are not related I fear for one of the suppliers that we rely on so heavily. There are a lot of people that have been pushing the envelope with the current block but I doubt enough to support both blocks unless costs for molds are shared between the two. As far as factory iron blocks poping up like iron heads, I doubt that it will be as high of a number but some will definately become available. A block in itself doesn't make horsepower like the heads do and will only be necessary for the big boy crowd.
Hmmm...So, how much is this aluminum block going to cost? What benefits does this block have over the iron block that's coming out? Besides being aluminum? I'm just curious. I got a 350 so, I'll never need either of them but, If I had a 455, I don't think I would be able to afford any of them. LOL! I guess you got to pay to play Rob
Oh YEAH Just show me what you've got Mr. Jim.....LOL Of course, if you haven't got enough, then there might be an alum. v8 on your list....HA HA HA>>>>>> My convertible is for style, my big block for attitude, my riviera for sale, and my 86 T-Type for the win! Alan
I will place a bet that the "big boys" will go with TA aluminum blocks and heads! Any takers? Jim Lore
Why wouldnt we ??? Just think if it flies apart you can just get it welded and unless its split in half its a fixer everytime. Could be the last block you ever buy !!! :Brow:
Mike G: What would a bare all aluminum 455 block weigh relative to a stock iron 455? Perhaps the figure can be approximated by extrapolation using the relative weights of a stock 231 iron block versus the aluminum TA 231 block. According to the TA website the weight of the TA aluminum V6 with sleeves is less than 100 pounds. All other things being equal one might estimate the aluminum V8's weight (100/.75)=133.3 lbs.
I would guess around a grand above the iron blocks....... I never thought I'd see the day,but my enthusiasm to make my car faster is back on the climb. I wonder what this will do for the demand of an alternative to waiting for a Moldex crank.I don't think you want a stock crank in your new block. I wonder when they'll (TA block) will really be available......
ALUM. BLOCKS Gary, how are you going mount the chute on that Beast?? :Brow: Pat Musi lookout... Here come da Buicks::laugh: (time to save the pennies & 100.00 bills (again)Randy
Jim you have a PM regarding newsletter. Aluminum block would be cool but I need to get a car to put one in first.
